A cheap alternative to OmniPage. The tool is not only suitable for OCR, but also if you want to cut out individual areas of scanned books and want to save it separately. Readiris saves recognized pages both as searchable PDF, Word file or OpenOffice format. Unfortunately, the recognition rate is not very good especially in poorly copied texts. Even with slightly sloping copies it had its problems and you should always times readjust again. Nevertheless, for occasional scans with OCR or for creating PDFs quite usable.
