Customer Review

It is the first time that I have such a highly technical TV at home, which is actually already more a small computer. In principle, one could call the device also "panacea" because it can somehow everything. Of course with so much art and everything must function reliably, that the "big picture" works well here and has the Philips unfortunately a problem. But I will get a further below, first I want to sing a little song in praise of what this fresh from the IFA coming, distinguished TV everything.

Installation & Optics (++)

The Philips TV sets as a feast for the eyes, because if he is first. For now unpacking and manual screwing of the foot you should bring a little patience and a lot of space. To mount the foot of the TV must be connected to the image area, otherwise, the screws would be not so quickly and firmly attach and this course you need space. The huge screen is almost borderless what the image can look even once more, only at the lower end there is a little thicker edge and gives the impression as if you are a chic, giant screen in the living room - very nice! When you first start a few basic settings, searched the station and also the connection to the Internet, which is usually equal to a first update. Here one can still make any great individual settings and therefore the first commissioning of the device is done quickly. Some complain that the remote would look "cheap". Well, that part is made of plastic, but it is simple and you can find all the buttons at once, I do not expect more from a remote control.

Picture & Sound (++)

We still belong to the "ancient" households that relate analogue cable TV, only the digital and HD channels via the built-in DVB-T antenna on the TV to us into the living room. Analog image quality is expressed friendly, a nightmare, once you've seen digital or HD. Due to the large screen of Philips is one that again particularly clear, but where I think that it looks not quite as horrible as to our three year old Sony TV. Philips has a very rich and clear picture, which probably is the reason why one analog certainly can endure. His true values unfolds the TV of course if one of digital or even better HD, switches. Here you can see every little wrinkles in the faces and the landscapes could not be more beautiful in reality.
Also the sound can be heard. It is clear, has a magnificent bass and can already replace almost a small home theater system that needs as a television can first!

3D & Ambilight (++)

Here the Philips TV shows then right, what is in it. Did you ever want to wish to see Dieter Bohlen or Harald Glöööckler in 3D? No? Do not worry, the TV you like to convert every conceivable TV from 2D to 3D and amazing with a result. I have not thought it possible that a completely conventional television picture through this patch effect could actually achieve a spatial depth. However, it all depends on what program you see. In landscapes and Co., the conversion works much more convincing as in humans. Of course it's not such a special 3D effect, as you can see it in the cinema or on 3D BluRays, but it is quite a small change times and leaves a always amazed at the technology that's inside there. With special 3D discs, the effect of course is then much stronger.
A further, absolute highlight Ambilight. The small LED lights that are hidden somewhere in the body of Philips, produce a light that color to the image shown just fit and exude it laterally and to the rear. It can be really bad to explain what effect it has, because you have to have seen it. Through this right lighting, the screen looks spatially and again larger, sometimes not to mention the great atmosphere which is able to produce it. I tried it with a concert recording from this year's Wacken Open Air and have to say that it almost seemed to me as if I were there myself in the crowd. For this purpose it is advisable to turn off the light in the room, because then the effect is to their best advantage. Ambilight I do not want to miss!

Apps, WLAN and other connections (++)

Thanks to the integrated WiFi, the TV can connect smoothly with a wireless router. Furthermore you can then use the extensive range of SmartTV and also receives its software updates. Apps there are many, especially of course those television worthy as YouTube and Co. Unfortunately, watching videos with our village-Internet connection is not a pleasure, it is recommended that a fast line, otherwise you can also view Diafotos because you have more of it. Generally, because there's still some other interesting apps that repurpose the TV almost to the PC. So I could, for example, retrieve emails, plan routes, or sometimes just to access Facebook.
Connections provides the TV also plentiful. Mandatory HDMI ports are complemented by some USB interfaces and standard connections, here lacks nothing. I particularly enjoyed the enclosed adapter, which can not be degenerated into an electronic waste equipment without HDMI terminal. The recognition by USB is working properly, so I had been absolutely no problems.

The Software (--)

There is a reason why I would like to deal with this item separately: the software has given me a few days already prepared a few gray hairs! In menus, when switching and the teletext of TV works quite slowly, it takes before something until he jumped to the next screen. But in addition I could not ignore, if it were not for the general immaturity of the software. In less than seven days running my unit is twice totally frozen for no apparent reason. It was the normal TV mode, so it ran no apps, nor any devices were connected. The picture is indeed continued to run, but it was nothing more can use, even turning off the main button has brought nothing, for several seconds after a separation from the power the device would work again. It's incredibly annoying when the TV just so decides to stop right in the movie, because then you can not pause, press, yet the tone adjust or otherwise do something. The software has to my mind a few unsightly teething, but I am optimistic that Philips will come with updates somewhat improve it. Just for the moment, I find it so disturbing that I can give this otherwise great device no full marks.

A few words about the glasses

The TV will be four passive 3D glasses, nerd chic in look. But now I'm even already wear glasses and have the movies always my problems with the added spectacle, since I can not settle my without getting headaches soon. I'm wearing a not at all delicate model and finds positive that the supplied 3D glasses so that harmonize very well. For those who wear glasses so the Note: the glasses are cut quite large and should easily fit on the actual glasses!

Conclusion

Overall, I'm just excited about this highly technical and innovative TV. He has a lot of what I do not want to miss even after such a short time. Currently the software is still his biggest problem and also that I will give a heavy heart not full marks leads. I hope that Philips still nachbessert because this television has always deserved!
