At 160 minutes the sailors here, their ships and enemies tribute is paid, with rousing shanties, sad homesick songs spukigen Geisterschiff ballads and highly obscene Saufgegröle, all written sometime between the Battle of Trafalgar and the advent of the damned modern steamships. Among the spoils, there are black pearls like Nick Cave dramatic Fire Down Below, Bryan Ferry's spooky The Cruel Ships Captain, Gavin Fridays hymn to Baltimore Whores, Loudon Wainwright incredibly obscene The Good Ship Venus, Richard Thompson's elegiac Mingulay Boat Song, David Thomas eccentric version of Drunken Sailor and Mark Anthony Thompson Haul Away Joe magical. Even a stowaway as Sting beats quite bravely, Bono should careen for his Pathosgenöhle however. Or send the same over the plank.
Apart from this: Really great! And since Willner has getting outta most participants more than a song, but not all found place here even cares to continue giving (already so Shane MacGowan may also sing along). Bring it on and a bottle of rum!
