Ringer makes to a potential haven for exploring, but this goes horribly wrong. Those left behind by Ben and Cassie are meanwhile facing the question: Stay to wait for Evan and Ringer, Ringer or follow? This leads to some conflicts. Meanwhile, Evan meets an old friend, which greatly complicates the situation. If the friends find each other? More and more urgent is also the question of why this campaign of destruction is: What is really behind the alien invasion?
Opinion
This book has let me down? Left at a loss it is true probably better over long distances. It starts with the title: While The 5th Wave was THE dominant theme in the first volume, I know until now not quite know what to tell me the title of the second band. The references in the book are as very weak. While the cover is very interesting, but I'm lost, on which point in history there is to relate. Absence in my book the decisive pages ?! But I feel like the characters in the story are in fact also continuously perplexed. Clueless would certainly not have been so great title, I admit.
Actually, the story begins not so bad at: Although it is a classic that a group zumeinst involuntary and often longer than planned splits, but there can be a lot out of it. Unfortunately, many authors fail more or less clearly in mind. The most interesting story line in my opinion is the, is entered with the book. I found it quite hard but that this then no longer drankommt and the last 110 pages are suddenly only from this perspective. This part degenerates into merry guesswork and also included an intensive look back into the past of the character. At the end I crept over the feeling that the person knows more than I do, but only at the end of volume 3 will share this wisdom. Then there is the other narrative thread which, although very promising anlässt, but then seems to end in mere overcoming an obstacle. The third narrative thread meet especially the opinions of two people and otherwise actually happens very little. A fourth narrative thread has left me quite cold, which I thought was pretty bad.
The unpredictability has yet suffered here, for lack of action progress happened hardly anything and therefore rarely something unexpected. Ringer was the only character that an upset was good every now and then and where really serious tense moments occurred for me. There were also a few more cinematic scenes, but that makes for a bad book. In the alien matter we went on very slowly, even though in the last third was a very interesting development, the resolution but was naturally moved to the next band. However, I really had to swallow the end already. If that should be the heights to which humanity ascends Overall, the book written while tidy, but from my perspective, the author would have here a high gear right from the start and not have to downshift. Woe to you, Rick Yancey, if there is no successful resolution in the final band!
Conclusion
Disappointing midsection, which brings little action progress and raises only one, two interesting questions.
