No Line on the Horizon (Audio CD)

Customer Review

To rate this album I have to go back a bit further:
I grew up with U2. With 12 I heard "Joshua Tree" up and down, then "Rattle and Hum", then came "Achtung Baby" - fantastic!
After I then wrongly widely underestimated "Pop" again was really good, it was me to radio compliant finally on the last two albums. In particular, "Atomic Bomb" had a baseline and the songwriting of a band that is copied only moderately even after more than 20 years.
With correspondingly low expectations I moved towards "No Line" - and am absolutely positively surprised. It seems as if Bono and The Edge in particular fell into a fountain of youth, because only the beautiful guitar moments that keeps the window ready to already be worth the purchase.
Gone are the pathetic whining and calculated song structure of songs like "Beautiful Day".
In "No Line" is in some places throw down, so there was no longer rock album since "Achtung Baby". Whether the return to the Hansa studios was to blame?

Now time for Player Ratings:

"No Line on the Horizon"
A mid-tempo opener on the British side, that is loaded at first somewhat bulky, but quite deep bites the ear at the third hearing.
Breathes the spirit of 80er.Die OhhhOhhhOhhh hook line no longer goes away ....

"Magnificent"
The absolute highlight - the first 3 seconds one thinks of the White Stripes, the subsequent synth passage could also come from Depeche Mode anno Violator - and then begins a flawless bombastic overproduced anthem that simply to die for and something like a revue big U2 moments in time-lapse is. As I think of "Sunday" or "Whose gonna ride" - only in very bold.

"Moment of Surrender"
Reduced piano ballad with nice Edge Solo and gentle gospel / Eclectic Chorus. Gripping and at no time, shallow and tacky

"Unknown Caller"
Reminds me personally at the "Pop" album. Great catchy. Another "OhhOhhOhh" that impresses itself. Chorus with 4 voices and laanges Edge Extro the good end. Succeeded.

"I'll go crazy"
The do not particularly like. Excessive Schnulzigkeit to vertaute synths, but no problem, after the start you can watch the still afford ...

"Get On Your Boots"
Unusual single selection. Respect. From the structure of a typical small 70s rockers. And the chorus-chorus? One to one queen. Even Bono manages as accurately as Freddie to sound. No milestone, but good!

"Stand-Up Comedy"
That's a really big fish. Ingenious Text, Led Zeppelin guitar back and an unusually large dose of hardness! Respect!

"White as Snow"
Very silent guitar ballad, thoughtful and sad - here pleasing unpeinlich - almost hauntingly

"Fez Being Born"
Here U2's penchant for world music is once again significantly. Almost an instrumental with a rapt Bono in the background. Grroßartig implemented, but certainly not for everyone

"Breathe"
There he is again. The typical U2 song. Reminiscent of many good old things, great catchy and a perfect single. Pure Pop.

"Cedars of Lebanon"
Chanting in a very quiet ballad in the vein of "Streets of Philadelphia" from the boss. Here the text is rightly in the foreground.

In conclusion, one must simply say that U2 lie down with this album a great comeback. No other music Dino has produced a similarly strong record in recent years.
And all the boys can learn a lot about it ...
