Compared with an Up

First of all I must say that I am sometimes a little love with technology and, secondly, I do not look always to what costs a little and if I really need it. But the fact is that one (s) sometimes required here in order to push himself. After I already had the scale and blood pressure monitor from Withings, I really did not want to start another app on your smartphone, it did but then. I bought a few weeks before the pulse a Jawbone Up wristband. I will then come here at some comparative things that allow one or the other might collect their experiences accordingly or to share.
Incidentally, some pulse watches and measuring equipment for the sport, I call my own and use it partly for comparison with this Withings Pulse. Ciclo, Garmin, Suunto and iRunner belong and all devices are commonly more expensive to much more expensive, especially if they are also record data.
Now the pulses at 16.8. came my part, a relatively large packaging for such a small part. There are securely packaged in a charging cable (USB), a bracelet (for the night) and a rubber holder. Everything looks neat and has not even the touch of cheap. The description was, on CD, I believe, was short and corresponded to what can be found on the Internet. The first connection to the smartphone, after a short charging time was indeed found, but the integration into the existing withing app did not work the same. Delete and two or three more attempts, and the device could be coupled and then also believed to belong to my account. The connection to the phone is done via Bluetooth here and was initially not always functional. After an update, the beginning of September, but it was better. Unfortunately, the device has then but at 13.9. adopted with Error 1 and is now probably in the exchange - can of course happen with electronics and better during the warranty period as shortly thereafter!
Now to the function. From the outset, the pulses with the Jawbone Up had to compare. Short for Up, it's different from the pulses, designed as a bracelet. Feels like I would say, in USA, there are only women who wear what so, or we Germans are just stronger. The Up - L is so short that it barely spans my arm, it only has a maximum of 1 cm overlap and is thus somewhat like and hooked up with the environment. + For the pulses coming in your pocket that fits and not even pressed. In his shirt pocket should better not wear it because it is certainly quickly lost. Connection to the app, which is up by jack (like headphones) connected to the smartphone and start the coupling or the data transfer. This is a bit cumbersome. The Pulse comes via Bluetooth and transmits the data very quickly. Mostly he seems also independently establish the connection - at least partly data in the app are been there, I had not knowingly transferred. Charging occurs when the two devices via USB - Adapter. The Up but with a special cable - USB to jack, the pulses with Micro USB to USB, the cable, one may as spare lying around (+ for the pulses).
Duration is about the same for both indicated ~ 10 days. The Up should after 4 days back to the charging station, otherwise a sudden missing data. It consumes significantly more energy than specified by the manufacturer (full -) of the pulses coming loose over 10 days and it shows the battery power also on the display (a clear +). This shows up only during the coupling with the smartphone (again -).
Relevance of the data. The night data, when starts the night when it is completed, manually set on both devices. Something stupid, because you certainly forgets often times (I, anyway). However, the data also are not vital. The comparison of the data is a much more interesting, both units have approximately the same sleep onset, both devices recognize a wax phase with getting up. Both units recognize sg deep sleep and light sleep phases. And you have to say, the devices are very similar with their results. In which case the Up - bracelet felt better dissolves. The deep sleep are more times interrupted as the Pulse, but already at about the same time and the whole length also similar (balanced).
Pedometer, you can always choose to find some discrepancies. The Up shows significantly more steps than the pulses. And if you climb on a bicycle, the pulses remains deutlichst. But that's a problem that I anrechne both devices as the biggest minus. They should actually determine my movement and make sure that I move as much as possible (> 10,000 steps). Cycling is probably no movement, especially for the pulses do not. All other devices, such as sport watches, Garmin or iRunner have significantly better on it! Good that there is not for 100th
Now again the pedometer or their evaluation. The Up has a much better evaluation and shows in the app at all possible. Motion total time Longest movement longest respite, steps, distance, calories. The Pulse provides the time steps, distance and calories and it can say something about the amount! Although not very accurate, at least as a guide, I went X meters upwards. Someone had complained that the pulses its Talgang "did not specify the right - it is also clear the Pulse measures according to the description only the effort" up "In downhill only the calorie consumption must be reduced, otherwise nothing, downhill can indeed every Ok.! , is also strenuous, but just not as much as uphill. I also have not seen a treadmill that simulates downhill.
Now briefly App. Both programs are very similar, and willing to help with the pictorial representation of his Nichtstuens ". The time bar are just too rare to see on a day at the office! The Withings app is for me the more meaningful, with more general there. You just also shows the weight, so you dares on the scale, and the blood pressure at. Somewhere you could also enter with his food, but that was somehow out of sync not with me, just too much trouble and everything was there what I eat.
Nice gimmick when Up is the awakening. One can define a get-up time and the Up recognizes a light sleep phase and wakes you at this time. Similarly, one can can growl at, if you had more than x minutes no movement or you can take a nap and wakes for an optimum time. All in all, the pulses or the pulses - may each decide for themselves what is right - for me the meaningful unit in conjunction with the other Withings devices. The Up is nevertheless not disappear. Teething have both still and improvements will always exist. With Up to you also can take a shower - I do not prefer me does not appear as if that goes well forever. Although I have forgotten ever swim in the pool and vice have some time, has no problems. With the Pulse it's certainly not that is via USB port always open and therefore not waterproof and steps it can not measure the water for sure. The Up, however, would recognize the movement of the arm as a movement and pose as an activity.
So, this is now a short overview from my perspective. Ultimately, I hope that my pulse will be back soon, the Up will nevertheless remain on the arm - competition is good for business and hopefully I move in the future even more.
