Matt Ruff it may well, if it can accommodate as many characters in his novels. In "Fool on the Hill" and "Sewer, Gas & Electric" were at the beginning of the book summaries with all the characters. He probably also knows that this can be clearly to the reader. So I had to laugh when I read the Kurzbeschriebung to "Set This House in Order": two people, but both with multiple personality disorder. So again a vast number of characters in a story.
Nevertheless, he manages through his writing style, the different personalities make them clearly identifiable without losing the story from the eyes.
Compared to his first two works I had the impression that now times Ruff wanted to write a serious, mature and at the same time humorous book. He has succeeded. "Fool on the Hill" was fun, chaotic and well-read, "Set This House in Order" has me actually like better.
