Comprehensive summary

How to summarize the Cold War and almost 60 years of world history in 500 pages? This book presents André Fontaine, a highly accurate pen and enjoyable to read, all east-west tensions that existed in the 20th century. The synthesis starts with the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk and the genesis of this conflict and then chronologically follow the main events. We pass by the end of the second world war and the division of Germany, it continues with decolonization and the instability in the Near East before starting a long passage on the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War. The individual chapters are succins given the magnitude of the topics, but dense enough information to follow the thread of the narrative.

We really appreciate the work of research, information accuracy and willingness to regularly change geographic place to keep the reader's attention.
It will be appreciated within the small script used, lack of illustrations or maps, and the impression that the entire text revolves only around the iconic characters: The Cuban crisis was not limited to Kennedy and Khrushchev, almost only people quoted in this part of the story.

It still remains an excellent and exciting synthesis in French of the end of 20th century history.
