In addition, you acquire more technology-70s: 7-segment display, control via mains frequency and of course no automatic changeover between summer and winter time. (The latter was the reason for the only time that I slept in a year in spite of the alarm clock.)
The design is definitely a matter of taste, but in any case even retro: In the old James Bond movies to see this alarm clock bomb controls very similar ;-).
