That it took courage for these young Australian women to take and the sea, leaving their lives and their families, through a part of the world and go find a British husband, virtually unknown, but which relate only hope is.
This book tells us the journey and the fate of these war brides; more particularly four of them. Between hope, fear, jealousy, friendship, rivalry, we share their intimacy in the narrow cabins furnished to them on an airplane door. They are more than six hundred and so will travel for six weeks!
We attend the meeting of the world of military (world of men) and femininity, even frivolity
The men on board, and these women fear their excesses, but there was also fear for the girls and honor young wives ...
We are in 1946 and the war has just ended, but it marked the minds and characters of each man or woman lad one way or another suffered.
What of this novel if it is but I have it devoured the novel theme for me my really interested and I pay tribute here to the courage of these women.
This book is well written and the structure is interesting. Quotes from testimonies of time, from newspapers and other do that add to the authenticity of the events related.
I did not know this author, it appears that the subject was inspired by her grandmother who was itself part of Australian wives sent up in Europe.
I certainly reread a book by this writer
