The wide range is sufficient for most situations, even in non-full-frame cameras (like the Nikon D7000 or smaller models), where the largest wide-angle range is due to the crop factor approx 36mm. For the telephoto end is larger than 70mm (ie at the Nikon D7000 105mm) in these cameras.
The weight is not a problem in my view. The 900g to listen to, although much and are emphasized in many a review. Recently, however, I had to work for several hours with this objective; Which reminds me, the weight is not noticed even after a long period of use.

While a vibration reduction (Nikon says "VR" Canon "IS" (Image Stabilizer)) is missing, but you can be prepared by, for example adjusting the shutter speed or - if necessary at all - a monopod (such as the Cullmann magnesite 560) used.
Because the lens is rather long, it is a pity that a lens clamp is missing, you, mounted in their use in the case of using a tripod, the lens rather than the camera on the tripod. While it's not bad and it also nothing happens; I would feel with lens clamp but better. Who knows how the weight of the axle on the outstanding lens affects the electronic contacts of the lens and the camera!
Competing products with similar properties are indeed cost-effective, but also problematic. Even 5-star reviews often mention problems. With this lens you are a bit more money, it is really completely happy. In this case, the price difference is acceptable for a reason due to the excellent results. Of course, each issue needs to be worthwhile. I myself use this lens primarily for portraits and concert photography. Who wants to only occasionally create some nice sharp images with beautiful bokeh at times, which can also in a relatively favorable fixed focal lengths recourse (eg the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1: 1.4 g or more favorable Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm 1: 1, 8D).
On the whole, it's a top lens, which I constantly use lately. Who needs such an objective, which I definitely recommend to accept the higher price in terms of its competitors, and to buy this lens. Ultimately, it does nevertheless paid!
