- Maul alive! -
I hereby withdraw my past criticism of The Clone Wars back formally. The series was really the best thing that could happen to Star Wars Episode III on their way and they did an amazing thing done, they became more interesting with every season. The good shall always be for us early and so there were at TCW not falling attendances or to high production costs, but the sale of the entire franchise to Disney, which led to the end. The series ended in the middle of its height.
But The Clone Wars was controversial even beyond the borders of the fandom of Expanded Univers addition and offered material for excited discussions. Just over a decade after Episode I brought you Darth Maul in the fourth season back and unleashed a storm of protest first of all. This highly self-sponsored idea of George Lucas was to have returned without the mouth seen even once in Action strong criticism. But Lucas and Dave Filonis courage was rewarded but. The resurrected Darth Maul proved to be one of the most fascinating and popular The Clone Wars characters, who beat already not so young fans of the prequels in its spell. Although Maul 2.0 was less taciturn and less articulated but corresponded entirely to what was some hitherto hovered only as a fan theory. Maul Reborn demonstrated sophistication, ambition and everything you would expect from an apprentice Darth Sidious.
- The series has been discontinued and the consequences for Darth Maul -
Not only Darth Sidious had in TCW still plans to mouth, also the creator of the series Mauls Arc wanted to "take out". Disney, however, was probably already interested more REBELS than a continuation of TCW and so many arcs remained open. These are now to be still largely completed because screenplays there was during work on Season 6 already for Season 8. In comics or novels to plan over the coming years to come back to The Clone Wars, and some characters might still a kind of happy ending bestow. At series end, however, Darth Maul was lost and no one knew where to go, what became of him now clarifies SON OF Dathomir.
- The Plot -
Unlike the three dividers in the series I SON OF Dathomir appears relatively short, as if you had put more than necessary emphasis on a taut narrative. However, for this to this story is impressive, even if you might have guessed correctly at first some turning points. Caution Spoiler: One should never underestimate the shrewdness of Darth Sidious.
The big question is, of course, right at the beginning: If Darth Maul die? The further course of galactic history, it seems to suggest, because mouth could, as a former Sith apprentices but anytime itself impose a second Sith Order, by adopting its own students. At the same time Mauls domination of the Galactic Underworld has to end.
SON OF Dathomir has to offer some explanations and make it the way even the backstory mouth and mother Talzins deepen. When Maul, Dooku, Grievous, and Sidious Talzin come into play are great duels of course inevitable, and the reader feels cheated out of it already, it just never expected this to bring in animated form. Unless you filmed the comic sometime in The Clone Wars-style, which indeed can not be totally excluded.
However, many questions remain unanswered at the end and there is a melancholic atmosphere in the air, when you still clings again to the hope that it could go further. Mauls affect Deathwatch could indeed in REBELS still play a role, and anyone could indeed the ruins Dathomirs visit.
- The anti-hero -
What would a former Sith Lord to do when he feels betrayed by his master, and his execution is only just escaped? He plans his revenge, risking even allies, or at least an army of foot soldiers to lose.
In SON OF Dathomir mouth thinks once no intention to enlarge his empire or to hide, but knows that he act and has to face his opponents. However, an opponent as the mouth is accustomed to success, Count Dooku, because mouth proves just as ruthless as his replacement at Sidious page. Mauls military strength affects the comic but at times rather modest and one wonders how many troops he had to leave on Mandalore in order to keep the local insurgency under control.
- The Sith -
Great character experience moments neither Count Dooku Darth Sidious or even General Grievous. Sidious walk around in a separatist stronghold and seeing aboard Sidious shuttle Grievous but raises questions about how much of Grievous Sidious true identity and knew where Dooku took his confidence that Sidious really stood behind the cause of the separatists.
While Dooku somewhat like the opinion-less vicarious agent of the Dark Lord appears Grievous appears at least from an unusually irreverent side. The droid General Dooku seems not so unthinkingly trusting as the Count might think. After SON OF Dathomir it even seems possible that Grievous really only Darth Sidious was loyal and Grievous Contacting Sidious in Episode III gives significantly more sense. They knew each other even loyal not only, Grievous was Sidious opposite.
- Summary -
Overall my comic seems too short even if it manages to bring ideally to the point the story. This brief and the residual feeling that here there is only the skeleton of a vielschichtigeren story could also cause SON OF Dathomir is just not develop those cult status that the comic would need to be maybe processed at some point in an animated film.
