- HR20 (with blue-gray rotary knob)
- HR20-style (visual enhancement of the HR20, but with the same features)
- HR25 (with chrome wheel; functions against HR20 (Style) slightly expanded, among others: 6 switching points per day)
- HR30 Comfort + (with openable PC, illuminated display and maximum functional)
I have created a small comparison chart below, which elaborates the key differentiators and hopefully provides a decision aid.
However, my impression for a preliminary purchased by me HR20-Style (with a few additional comments on the features of higher-value models in brackets The HR30 I have now also.):
Delivery: device, manual, adapter for the most common heating valves, (not present:. Additional required 2x AA batteries)
INSTALLATION: The appliance fit without the supplied adapter on my heating; the assembly was easily within 1 minute possible because the metal shutter must only be hand tightened and thus without the use of tools anyway.
PROGRAMMING: The control panel can also be removed for programming, which makes things depending on the position of the heating valve may considerably more convenient. The menu is easily understandable by using the supplied (also downloadable online from the manufacturer) instructions. The time schedule can be either for all days (Mon-Sun) are set uniformly or it can be programmed individually and each day.
(In the model HR25 or HR30 it is additionally possible, uniform working days (Mon-Fri) and separated from the weekend (Sat-Sun) set. This result, however, can the HR20 (Style) with a little more time spent on by individual programming of all days Programming also be obtained.)
The HR20 dominated thereby per day up to 4 switching points so that max. 2 phases with the adjustable comfort temperature and, in each case between these 2 phases with the adjustable economy temperature are possible.
(From the model HR25 6 switching points possible. When model HR30 is next to 6 switching points also need a second comfort temperature can be set, which can be realized a slow ramp-up / downgrade the desired temperature. This is for example useful when the bedroom while in bed Go like cool, it would slightly warmer after a few hours and the morning warmth preferred etc.)
FUNCTION / VOLUME: The device does its job properly after programming. The whirring of the motor, (the one anyway only ever heard for a few seconds when the device must adjust the valve) is rather quiet and disturbs most in bedrooms: I even turned on the HR30, about 60cm next to my head and listen the sound when I'm awake, clearly and sometimes wake them up. For people with not very deep sleep, this could therefore pose a problem in bedrooms. In other areas of disruptive effect on the other hand is likely to be rather negligible.
Airing detection: This is the only determined by my shortcoming of the HR20 (Style). As feared, the device has a ventilation already no longer detects when an existing during my tests outside temperature of 9 ° C and a distance of about 1 meter from the window, even if the window is open gaping wide. We can only hope that the recognition works at very low outdoor temperatures at least. Actually, this function should turn off the heating during the duration of the ventilation. Here should the manufacturer need for improvement exist. (Remedy - perhaps because as yet not even tested - alternatively, the HR25, which has 2 levels of sensitivity at the ventilation recognition, or most likely the HR30, which offers the same 26 adjustable sensitivity levels for ventilation detection Since I find this personally important, I have. now ordered the HR30, because I have a good half hour. want to "heat up the window," not every day.) If the open window is detected, the shutdown ends all models either with manual reactivation, by recognizing a rebound in temperature (at HR30 is this sensitivity adjustable) or at the latest after 30 minutes (the HR30 this duration is from 30-90 minutes adjustable).
POWER SUPPLY: The instrument is supplied with 2 AA batteries that are not Article condition in the package. According to the manufacturer this about two years to maintain.
Reliability / Durability: (Update as of 13.12.2014): After the meantime I have two HR20-style and a HR30 in operation, fell on both HR20 sometimes by smaller functional hangers. So (not motor movable) showed one of the devices, despite multiple detaching from radiators and batteries are being replaced, a few days time and again an E3 error. This may go with the recently set by me full stroke mode (s. Below "TIP") together. Shortly thereafter, however, the error was no longer present. The other of the HR20, which I have only recently, has sometimes a "hanger" so that although the heating period should begin, the higher temperature while displaying on the display, but does not open the valve, which is annoying especially when one evening returns home in a cold apartment then. Remedy is then just a manual downloading or re revving up the temperature on the controller; then opens the valve. If this error continues to occur, I will order a replacement device, which is also on Amazon's problem under warranty.
TIP: If the heater is not warm enough despite the set temperature can be in all models of the so-called enable "full-stroke mode.". Then use the thermostat, from be sold at a somewhat higher battery consumption, the total possible stroke of the valve. In factory-set default-valve mode is a limited, but sufficient as normal, stroke is used. When HR 30, this mode can be set via the menu. When HR20 / -style must be removed for this purpose, the valve and during recoveries, the mean (FULL mode) or the right button (def mode) to be held down.
IMPORTANT: Perhaps more fundamentally, should Before replacing the thermostat on all models, the heater valve (at remaining on the heating "Noträdchen", which is supplied) to manually all the way up. This also referred to RELIABILITY E3 error can probably be avoided.
CONCLUSION: As a result, it is the HR20-style to a solid piece of equipment that offers a good price-performance level. (By way of comparison. The HR25 will cost only a few euros more, the HR30 about 6-7 euros more, this is likely but its worth because of the increased number of functions, as long as you need him) only real weakness of the HR20 are in my opinion, probably the only freezing temperatures appealing ventilation recognition and the smaller malfunctions. Since the latter although not everybody gets them mandatory HR20-style, the device comes in the end to a rating of 4 out of 5 Stars. The HR30 is due to the slightly too loud and therefore not necessarily appropriate at least for bedroom engine noise also on (good) 4 OF 5 STARS.
