1. What games I want to play?
2. Are there any of these games already on the PS3 or when will they appear?
3. Does the graphics of the games my expectations (test yourself)?
4. Do I need other functions of the PS3 really?
5. Do the extra functions of my expectations (test yourself)?
6. How much money are my additional functions (home theater system) really worth it?
7. I want the PS3 right now or can I wait myself until the PS3 itself, the PS3 games and Blu-Rays are cheaper and starting problems are raised?
Of course, arguments act as optics, build quality, noise and the like from the purchase decision and give to equivalent devices recent rash. Really buying decision, however, the performance and range of functions in the tough practice. I do not mean the theoretical functions as on the data sheet or pre prays in advertising. It is important for my purchase decision, I here and now usefully be done with the PS3 and not what I eventually could hopefully do so.
1. The game console
That hardly a game of PS3 at this time punk to the graphic quality of the XBOX360 zoom ranges, no one denies. Only the suspicions about the reasons for this differ: a typical problem of the first generation of games, which is fixed soon? The complex programming for the Cell processor? Or is it a false labor and graphics memory concept and the mediocre graphics processor? Mir are the reasons matter. If I buy a PS3 today, I want to play with really great games today. But that does not work with the PS3 now (yet). Since the launch with 30 games of the release calendar is stocked very thin, the two flagship titles (MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man) may neither graphically nor really convincing innovations or game concept, the real must-have games be postponed and appear until autumn. As a pure play console the PS3 is not convincing so currently. The gamer console themselves by then with game previews.
But the PS3 can still more:
2. The Blu-ray player
No question: Blu-Ray to see HD TV great and the Blu-ray medium appears after the end of the war to the DVD successor imminent future success. But what brings me here today? The crux lies in my opinion, here the software (= film) offer. Blue-ray discs are for a relatively expensive and on the other hand there are still far too few of them. In Blu-ray Store Amazon total of 106 titles (including 58 action movies) offered currently just. By comparison, in our sole Action movie DVDs at Amazon than 4,600 titles are available. Conclusion: a Blu-ray player is great to have, but currently needs it because of the meager film offer actually (still) no. I suspect that almost all PS3 owners next to Casino Royale just possess 0 to 5 more Blu-ray discs. Great! This is not a real selling point!
3. Web Browser
Yes, you can surf with the PS3 on the Internet, but can not you download and permanently fun it is only after you have connected the mouse and keyboard. With stylish looks, who appreciate many, it is then passed naturally.
4. A full PC (Linux)
Let's be honest: Who has ever installed Linux and who uses it even really intense? I am convinced that most Linux enthusiasts prefer to buy a standard PC as a PS3, because there are no artificial limitations and dependencies of Sony there. For quick demonstration effects, with which you can impress a visitor once flat, PS3 Linux is good of course, but the vast majority of Windows-usual (or verdorbenenen) Users can not therefore really do something.
This was my purely subjective experience report
