Depending on the buyer / purchaser of expectation, I think a review of "crap" (1 Star) to "good" (4 stars) is considered justified. The question is what you want to do with it and what is expected?
The COBY NBPC 724 is not a netbook, and certainly not a laptop (how could it when buying 88,00?). Rather, it is to send a large smartphone with outdated technology and equipment (Android 2.2) with no opportunity to call / SMS. But there has a few options that do not let me regret buying. The packaging is also of "netbook" no more talk. It says "My Mobile Entertainment Center". This applies quite well:
Internet: "Mobile Internet" via WiFi, as on a smartphone. Device problems. But slowly even at top ... signal device can not fast. Not really nice.
Email: Easily recognized. Address and password entered: Let's go.
Music Player: Player Installed sorted only by album and artist. Folder structures to storage media are not recognized. Remedy by Apps / other player possible ("MortPlayer" I like it).
Video: Plays all popular video formats rather quickly from, even with large files (films with about 700 MB).
EBooks: Software not even recognize the installed example ("File could not be loaded"). Not tried. As an eBook reader anyway unsuitable (s. Battery).
Apps: Installs is AppsLib. "Sorry, but your device is not compatible with AppsLib" (obsolete ?!). About detour access to the latest "Google Play Store" managed (installation file downloaded on the PC and run from a USB stick). Then all apps can be installed.
Battery time: 5 hours is nonsense. When "Use" (music, WLAN etc.) go about 2.5 hours. Not really suitable if you permanently removed from a power source.
Other: basics such as calendar, calculator ... can any smartphone.
The COBY is China goods from the low-range. The software has been ("off phone" ...) not really adapted to the appliance. Listen to music, watch videos, see pictures, data copy (memory card to USB and vice versa), e-mail and some Internet via WLAN in it. Operating the Android with keys and touchpad (without scrolling) is not beautiful, but doable. The processing of the COBY generally works well, with about 600g also good to go. The touchpad - keys make but each time you use loud "click clack".
Why buy and still rated 3 stars ?: I wanted primarily uncomplicated music with the office take (via headphone output system with input). That's fine with card reader and 3 USB ports. Everything else is bonus. Price-performance seems OK, if you buy with a suitable purpose. Do not expect too much from the COBY. For the price, there is finally not even a good smartphone ...
The COBY moves somewhere between the MP3 player, smartphone and netbook. Can not some and much. For me it was perfect.
Addendum April 6, 2013: After the above-mentioned purpose, meanwhile, is no longer present, the unit dusty unused. Those like me who owns a computer, laptop and smartphone, probably does not need COBY NBPC 724. I reduce my rating from 3 to 2 stars because the product according to my assessment today can hardly find a sensible application.
