At the beginning of the story, Ali flourished. She loves to kill zombies and her relationship with Cole, her boyfriend makes her happy. But everything changes one night patrol. His "friend" Justin is bitten and bites in turn, while still human. The teen recovers soon with the antidote but this is not the case with Ali. Since that night, she feels a presence in it: another heart, another spirit. She believes crazy until it makes the obvious: firstly itself became a zombie, a zombie who tries to take control of her body ...
This second volume is ... explosive! Unlike the first volume, where the author took the time to install its history, "Alice and the mirror Hex" starts on top speed and the pace never slowed. I loved this pace, the scenes are linked together so that I devoured in the day. Moreover, Gena Showalter offers us a more mature and deeper tome. Battles are bloodier and dual personality of Ali is of course the heart of the story. The passages where she comes face to his double are very well described and gave me shivers!
Although the future is uncertain Ali, it does not lose its caustic humor! Listen to his thoughts is a true happiness. Ali is gross stripping, impulsive and bounded. We are far from the usual cute schoolgirl. His relationship with Cole will change throughout the volume. In "Alice in zombies" they were quickly attracted to each other, including through shared visions; fairly warm premonitions that the had immediately reconciled. At the beginning of "Alice and the mirror Hex" these visions disappeared and our heroes are frustrated. They walk away and it did not improve when Alice begins to share visions with another zombie killer: Gavin.
Jealousy is going to burst the couple. Cole is afraid to commit and can not stand to wait for these premonitions are fulfilled. Ali will have to fend for themselves throughout the volume. Even if his feelings are still there, it is also very angry. This crisis in their relationship has not disappointed the romantic in me, on the contrary! I will not say more, but we have the right to many inflamed and electrifying scenes!
The friendship and trust have an important place in history. Kat is still as crazy and gets along with Ali. Nevertheless, Reeve, who knows nothing of zombies (by order of his father, who is part of the "anti-zombies) feels rejected. She is not stupid and understands that her friends hide him things ... From side of Cole, the author does not forget our killer zombies: Frosty & Bronx and their loves with the friends of Ali ...
To conclude, "Alice and the mirror Hex" is a second volume darker, more mature, which still satisfies the essential ingredients of a good novel young adult with a touch of horror and more. This series of "Chronicles of Zombiland" is not directed only to the fans of zombies, neophytes of the genre may well enjoy this saga who "speaks" not only zombies!
