Housing:
The case is very simply decorated plastic and somewhat similar to the new Nexus. 7
Unfortunately, the build quality is here inferior to the Nexus. 7
Edges are clearly visible and there are some places some quirks in plastic, vorallen the frame,
ie where the two housing parts meet.
The buttons on the side are unfortunately somewhat hidden and have a stiff pressure point.
The Windows button is the way to the side and not as usual on the touch screen.
Otherwise, the device fits comfortably in your hand.
Display:
The display is bright and contrasty.
Unfortunately, there is a deduction for the resolution since I am already familiar with HD / Retina resolution of other tablets / smartphones.
Here you have to make do with 1280x800, which in turn is not necessarily bad in 8 inches.
By Portrait orientation will be held all the events to drive up in portrait mode.
The hardware-related standard resolution is 800x1280 therefore what some applications presents problems even if the landscape mode is set.
Touchscreen:
The capacitive touch screen works ansich as it should, takes touches, movements and gestures true easily and accurately.
The stylus works on a Wacom digitizer technology, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note devices or graphic tablets.
Problem is here, unfortunately he very imprecise and inaccurate works, especially in the corners.
The cursor is in some places of the display next to a few millimeters or garnichtmal perceived correctly in the corners, for example, the Start Button.
A calibration (which should, incidentally, be performed in portrait mode) helps here a little, but not completely eliminate the problems.
Wacom is already working on an improved driver with Vivotab Note 8 support to resolve the problem well hopefully.
The driver from version 7.1.4 to appear here: http://us.wacom.com/en/feeldriver
But first it heist wait and drink beer.
Power:
Compared to its predecessor, the Atom Z2760 makes the new Z3740 (codename BayTrail) more.
Not only that it now has 4 physical cores but also a new GPU donated scored,
namely an Intel HD 4000 which is also used in the Ivy Bridge CPUs.
In previous PowerVR SGX was only one 545 used with very lean and poor performance driver support.
Thanks to the new GPU most games run the one in the Windows Store gets liquid.
I tested Hydro Thunder Hurricane and Riptide GP2, both ran smoothly with the highest setting.
Not only AppStore games run well, other games like Daedalic Desktop Adventures (The Night of the Rabbit, Deponia, A New Beginning, ..) or Lost Horizon, Book of Unwritten Tales can be played well by touch and stylus.
Connections:
The tablet supports Bluetooth 4.0 which works fine.
Wireless LAN 802.11 a / g / n, but that gives me problems.
Every now and then stops the connection / data transfer and does not move for a few minutes.
Meanwhile, you only get 404 Errors continuously.
Have these problems with 2.4 and 5 GHz WLAN and only with this device. Galaxy S4, iPad Mini Retina, Nexus 7, 2013, PSVita etc do not have any problems on the same wireless network and distance himself.
Sometimes it helps nurnoch the Tab reboot to get back a connection.
I had the same problems even when Vivotab Smart ME400C, only not as extreme.
Unfortunately I have no idea what this could be due to either faulty drivers or incorrect setting.
Will possibly times the Asus support letter in this regard.
Battery:
The battery has a 8 "Tablet a durschnittliche duration, as well as the Nexus 7 to get here up to 8 hours depending on the application.
However, if the device brings to its limits which is the battery out after 2 hours.
Who plays a lot and surfs the internet should therefore stehts bring the AC adapter.
And if that is not enough should buy an iPad which is much more energy efficient even at high utilization.
