Sloe Gin (Audio CD)

Customer Review

So, I can quite understand the blues hardliners who are disappointed by this album. That's me to a certain degree as well. I've seen Joe in March this year live, and that was the brilliant moment, from the moment it was not long, and I had all the CDs. My personal Musikegschmack come here the albums from 2002 to 2004 and most likely contrary: hard blues-rock at its finest, power trio music that pulls a chair from. To be named nine minutes guitar solo in the tradition of guitar virtuosos of the 70 A la Rory Gallagher to a driving, almost funky: My uneingeholter favorites while still from the first album I've ever heard: Pain and Sorrow of So It's Like That (2002) rhythm. Changing to the producer of Led Zeppelin from the 2006e Album You and Me (now even with sloe gin) I stand personally against a little ambivalent, the tendency to underscore with bombastic sounding strings accompaniment is now not ungedingt what I hear most of all , But I just know that as absolute QualiƤtsmerkmal of Joe at: in the last three albums (Had to Cry Today from 2004, although that is still held by the old line and the old style - You and Me - and just sloe gin) went it every time that I was slightly irritated not only at first listen to me. Because Joe just not the expectations of its growing fan base just served but evolving. In individual cases then also to get away from what I most appreciate (and many blues hardliners) to him. And what is then often interpreted as a change to the mainstream. It then went after repeated listening so me all albums that I have belongs in it and have begun to appreciate the songs that match a style, as I usually do not hear him. So some of the slower and more accessible things to You and Me (like Asking Around For You) are now one of my absolute favorites. And after 1 week Sloe Gin may times selbiges even say the title song of the new album ....

What Bonamassa like no other apart is the conscious use of the musical history of the last 50 years. The majority of his songs are interpretations of Rory Gallagher, Jeff Beck (with Rod Stewart), John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins (as dynamically afloat whose Travellin 'South at Bonamassa sounds ... barely recognizable), Blind Faith, John Mayall, Led Zeppelin , Otis Rush, Sonny Boy Williamson and many others, and he does not do this well before genre borders, interpreted a Ry Cooder. Therefore, one should always bear in mind: Joe Bonamassa is certainly a figurehead of the Blues, is engaged in this sector - but can not be limited to yourself. A versatile artist who deals intensively with the music and its history and to open the recipient therefore invites to meet new field of musical ...

and on top of that just also a gifted guitarist, of course, first and foremost.

Whether the album now convinced me completely or to a lesser extent, I am to 5 and not determined to 4 stars, alone Weil Joe Bonamassa is. And because he interpretations as that of Whitley's "Ball Peen Hammer" and Tim Curry "Sloe Gin" gives us ...
