after the D-pad of the "old" XBox controller is quite modest, I decided to test this here. I am thoroughly satisfied:
- Compared with the old controller, the new D-pad very, very much more precise. Quarter turn means you can toggle between "old" Setup (circular D-pad) and a pure, cross-shaped control pad as in older controllers (SNES, PS2 / 3 ...). I leave it entirely in the latter, because the D-pad really respond very precisely. For Beat'em'ups aka Street Fighter this is awesome. The old controller you wanted in wilder combinations (Left, Down, Up, Up Left, Left, and god knows what) but rags frequently times in the corner. The pressure point is now a bit shorter and especially something defined.
- The two pads have a minimal stronger restoring force toward the center and feel so precise on. Overall, I gained a better feel in shooters. It seems to me as if the precision better.
- All other buttons are like the old controller, hardly a game crucial difference.
In summary it can be said that Microsoft fine through *, minimal improvements * has managed to bring an already really good controller close to perfect. I am very pleased that Microsoft has no "Verschlimmbesserung" done, but all the changes have been made sensible and extremely discreet. Everyone who buys the controller will also be satisfied.
The only, minimal criticism (no point deduction, because it is here to grumble at a high level is): The controller is still a little hard (for example, in comparison to the PS3 controller). The NiMH battery pack weighs 10-15 g over two AA batteries again. Schade: Right here you could save weight. Weight reduction would IMHO the only sensible, further improvement. Otherwise, the controller is really top.
