After unpacking, I installed my two new 3TB WD hard drives. The installation of hard drives was relatively simple: Unscrew housing cover and open, placing disks and screw, close cover and tighten the screws. Also connect to the router, and the integration of the network took place without any major problems. Due to some reviews I was concerned that it could be difficult - but it was not like that. With the help of the accompanying documentation the most goes smoothly. Should you need special things to help the forum and Google also very good.
The first and only problems were encountered while creating the Time Machine backups. After I had everything set up as described the backups created by the Macbook Pro without difficulty - at least I thought. After one to two weeks, however, but I received the Time Machine client on Macbook following error message:
Time Machine is finished validating your backups. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you.
This is a complete, new backup in plain text. The old backups were gone ... This was not an isolated case - and more often I had to do with the error message. I was of course not happy with it, I turned to the problem of the Synology Support and promptly received the following reply:
"[...]
- Please go to System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Computer sleep and set it to Never.
- Please therefore avoid the power nap.
Please let us know if this issue persists When you stop the hibernation on your Mac.
[...] "
However, this did not solve my problem. After my research, it does seem to problems if you have Time Machine set for automatic backups and also a shutdown of the NAS has programmed at night. If Time Machine will attempt to perform a backup, shutting down the NAS, this apparently leads to the above-described error. Since I have the automatic backups off, and Time Machine anstoße only manually everything works smoothly.
My rating:
+ Good Suppport of Synology
+ Good community support via the Synology Forum
+ Simple, elegant design
+ Simple assembly / disassembly of hard drives
+ Disks remain under load with the 36 ° relatively cool
+ Very quiet in standby and during operation
o periodic transmission speeds
o Quality and processing for a device in this price range in order
- Note to Time Machine backups and automatic shutdown would be great
Conclusion: Even though there are minor concessions - such as the transmission speeds that do not reach the values of other recessions with me - or the problem with Time Machine backups - so my conclusion is clear: A solid and especially quiet NAS to a reasonable price, I would buy immediately!
