First, I tried to connect my printer over the KD20. Connect, install driver went very fast but: the printer printed only small files (up to 1MB). Some text and the test page I can print but normal large images not as if there is a built-in data volume limit.
With the support of Shuttle I wrote several mails, unfortunately without success. Until my support staff advised to exchange the device.
Said and done. The new device came and: the same mistakes as the same. The support told me that shuttle is already working on a firmware update for the print server.
So then I tried the NAS functions. Two hard drives were installed and linked as JBOD.
When you copy the video from an external hard drive (USB3) via USB3 port of KD20 there was the next disappointment: With maximum 5Mb / s, the data has been copied. 22 minutes for 5GB, which is lowest level USB1!
The disk I connected for testing with the USB3 Hub my computer and sent them via network (100Mb / s) to the NAS. Result: up to 14MB / s, three times faster than USB3 ??? I do not understand the world anymore! What I also tried (RAID0, RAID1, single, another external hard drive (also USB3)), it did not alter the transmission rates. Intern in the KD20 (from folder to folder) the speed was not any better.
Trying to copy from NAS to external hard drive (via USB3 port), the barrel brought back: a whopping 2.7MB / s!
Unfortunately shuttles Support could not help me, and so the unit goes back to the dealer.
Positives:
- Chic housing, stable and high quality
- Fast acceleration
- On-screen menu
- Normal data transmission rate over the network (100Mbit LAN: 14MB / s *)
- Fast support
Negatives:
- Printers can not be addressed (at least not my)
- USB3 can forget: Data Transfer Rate USB3 hard drive to NAS more than 5MB / s * (5GB take 22 minutes)
- Internal copy max. with 5MB / s
- Data Transfer Rate NAS USB3 hard drive maximum 2.7MB / sec *
- Fans, if he have time to start, rather loudly
* All data is copied with "Extreme Copy" and read the values there. Tried it even with the standard Windows Explorer. Only slight variations and all values are displayed there even lower.
Conclusion:
Visually beautiful NAS, but unfortunately -for me zumindest- not need to. The USB3 interface is a joke!
