The talented Robert Merle book a thrilling tale of a shipwrecked community, condemned to live on a deserted island, undermined by internal divisions, fighting for its survival. The psychology of the characters is dissected with a scalpel: each view is defensible, no character has completely right or wrong. The island exacerbating tensions, exposes human nature, reveals the strengths and weaknesses of each. Wonderfully told (it is like on the island), the novel deals with accuracy the great themes of life in society (mankind, women's, birth of politics, violence ...). Very informative.
