My humble remarks rather focus on the presentation and translation of this text millennium '
Translation Liou Kia-HWAY is not bad (or occasionally very good), but not immune, in my humble opinion, just against the grain. For example:
- Chapter 2: "All things arise in the world without him being the author" about wise. How could he be considered wise (even in the negative) as the "author" of all things knowing it was said in Chapter 1 that the Tao was Mother of "wu wan" (the ten thousand beings or all things)?
- Chapter 3: Speaking of "government of the saint" is clearly an against-sense policy. At most we could evoke a "governance" of the sage. It seems paradoxical that the solitary Sage can accept political responsibility in any government, Lao Zi leaving himself a corrupt government when a guard asked him to leave traces of his wisdom.
- Chapter 5: "The universe is like a bellows" completely forget the central term of the sentence ie "ji'n" which means "space". It is the space or interval between heaven and earth is like a bellows! Like other translators, there has also forgotten the character "yuè" which means a flute.
We regret the absence in this version of the Chinese text as well as the very limited explanations (with nevertheless some valuable insights on time). This is the standard but it's boring. For in-depth explanations, character (Chinese) per character, see the website [...]
Overall, this book will provide an additional perspective to the fans of Tao, Tao aware that, similar to water, takes the form of containers who welcome. A translation of Daode Jing 'choice for a given ideogram, rather than a sense of another' necessarily have the form of the translator 'and that's why he will not act the Tao!
