WE WERE FREE AS THE WIND. : From Cochise to Geronimo, a history of the Apache wars (Paperback)

Customer Review

I enjoyed reading this book about the life of the Apache nation and its principal hero of legend. The author has described the campaign undertaken by this people to defend against foreign invaders, Mexican or American who tried to seize the wealth of the territory and enslave its people. This historical narrative of a guerrilla war reads like a novel that we want to know the conclusion of the plot. The author has put into perspective the gross injustice which the Apaches were victims and treatment that the White-Eyes subjected them to assimilate. Even today, the Apaches have not forgotten. In fact, I just came from a trip to Arizona and New Mexico, and they sell a T-shirt with a photograph of Geronimo and other members of his clan, proudly wearing their Winchesters with the words: Homeland Security , we fight terrorism since 1492. Doing so referring to their legendary strength since the discovery of the Americas by Europeans.
