As a classic wide-angle design of course you have to reckon with the usual vignetting and a power drop towards the corners at f2.8. But whereas other wide angle until f8 - 11 reach their full capacity, this objective is already running at f4 - 5.6 to peak performance on and even at close range! Some kind of distortion is not noticed with this lens! Sharpness and contrast I would call well above average, even compared to, for example, the 2.8 / 24 (AF-D) or 2.8 / 20 (AIS). His only weak point might be more than that of 74 ° provides one or the other too little wide angle. The lack of autofocus I missed neither the D700 still on the F100.
