I had been looking forward to the new album for a long time, could expect the release date hardly. And now?
When I the first time '' Just as you were '' had heard on the radio, I still had the hope that this is just a bad slip of the band. A coupling that has been selected by the record company because they like "to songs 'Born to live"' is linked and therefore well suitable for the radio audience, but I had hoped that the rest of the album's songs but surely more claim would exhibit and would stand out clearly from it. 'Unfortunately, that hope turned out to be false.
Already the last album '' Große Freiheit '' was already significantly softer than the earlier works. I did basically not considered too problematic, since individual pieces as "'down' 'and' 'constellation' 'I found very appealing, even if not at earlier (in my opinion, absolutely brilliant) songs like" Mirror Image "' etc. were able to build. With "'Born to live"' on the last album I could start something strangely never, even if it has the band brought the breakthrough. Unfortunately correspond most songs on 'city lights' exactly this style' only a bit soft flushed, superficial, meaningless. And that's exactly my main problem that I have with the new album: I miss the profound lyrics of Count from earlier times that get under the skin that does not let go and move one. Shallow has become everything meaningless. Floskelhaft and beautiful sounding.
No doubt: The Count himself has a wonderful voice. If he, however such 'trivial' singing with such a voice, which acts like a break for me. With the album it definitely has great potential to be exploited in any way.
Music for eternity is not. Rather a CD from which up some songs on the radio and are abträllern where the housewife can quite nice do their dishes, which can be possibly used nicely as a background song in a RTL advertising, 'but with profound lyrics that under go skin, thought-provoking - so things that I have always appreciated Unholy as a 'secret' in the music world were still 'that has unfortunately nothing to do.
Too Bad. I do not want to condemn the band. It will probably always be by each band an album that one looks at the low point. It remains only to hope that Unholy reflect on that for which they were actually loves, namely just the intellectual depth. Shallow, meaningless texts there in the music market already sufficiently. This album will probably set the course for the direction in which the band wants to move in the future. That remains to be seen.
