-Bedienung-
The main menu is arranged horizontally and consists of unique pictograms to setup, photo, music, radio, video, inputs, Internet and the Sony Entertainment Network SEN. The sub-options are arranged vertically to it. Internet Radio is filed under Music and includes predefined channels, like the Internet TV channels predefined but are extensive. Access to DVD, USB and DLNA / UPnP devices is subject to the respective categories Photo, Music, Video.
The unit responds quickly to the remote control, but the viewing angle this is somehow quite narrow. Unfortunately you have to aim very precisely in the right direction. Our other devices are as much more tolerant when it comes to the attitude of the remote control.
-Set Up-
The menu can be set for 14 languages.
The cinema system can perform a software update via the Internet, which also works unobtrusively and perfectly, so far there was (only or already?) An update.
It provides the most complete picture settings for 3D modes, resolutions (up to 4K), color spaces and HDMI settings.
It also brings thoughtful sound settings incl. DRC and night mode (even stronger DRC) with. The speakers can be individually adjusted in delay and level. The sound output is either via the connected loudspeakers and / or HDMI.
It provides adjustable child safety with separate passwords for BD / DVD / Internet.
The device controlled multi-channel Super Audio discs.
The surround speakers can be connected wirelessly back by a dedicated amplifier. The installation was carried out fully automatically with me. In addition, it is possible to encrypt the connection.
-Klang-
Probably the most important is in a theater system sound. Here, this home theater system score as many points. Not only the nominal power 1000W, the balanced coordination have been well received. Here Sony has every individual speakers donated a bass reflex enclosure and installed into the front speakers an additional tweeter. The subwoofer is great, but if that brings the 1000W distortion, I may doubt. Nevertheless, at concert volume in the living room playing appears balanced powerful and still seems to have sufficient reserves.
-Netzwerk-
The cinema system dominated LAN and WLAN, wherein the WLAN with our Fritzbox 7390 as often hooked and no connection takes place at startup, such as our laptop with a specific WLAN stick. Therefore, we have the theater system now connected via the Gigabit LAN connection to the home network, which is available with video and photo playback from the network storage advantage. Whether the wireless unreliability lies on theater system or at the Fritz box I can not say.
Furthermore, the device via NFC + Bluetooth can connect and control with your smartphone. Unfortunately provides the related app "SongPal" but not nearly all of the functionality of the theater system again. But the sharing of media via UPnP works with other apps such as "BubbleUPnP" completely trouble-free. Access control is freely configurable.
One must give the device a name, with which it then logs all network functions. The devices that it finds on the network via UPnP or DLNA displays it by default to the appropriate menu points (photo, video, music) to, but they can also hide individual.
Additional apps can be started in the Opera TV Store. Unfortunately, they can not seem to download directly to the device and anchor somewhere in the menu. In addition, the applications do not seem to fit on our TV: all that I've tried have been trimmed left and right.
Since I am just at the weak points: the subject (or skin, as they say now) do not like me. On the one hand I find the colorless light gray to black and boring quite gloomy and sluggish. The lack of contrast and with a 32 "television, the then very small font are also very tiring and act as very stressful.
What I miss is really a sensible equalizer. While there are presets like "Night", "Game" and "Studio" and for playing music but a system-wide adjustment of sound representation that would I could customize my space really important.
