Scope of supply:
Inside the box we expect any miracles: The TomTom Go 400 is, together with the holder, a USB cable for connecting to a computer (for the map update, etc.) and a cable for connection to the cigarette lighter in the vehicle (cable is firmly connected to the Adapter connected). Plus, there's a leaflet as a guide.
Vehicle Cradle:
With the magnetic variant of the Go Live 1015 like better. One can the TomTom Go 400 while pushing out from the bracket, which is, however, very difficult. It is easier because to remove the entire suction cup including mounting system and Navi.
Cable:
This time it's a micro-USB cable and no self-development as the Go Live 1015 (which has a broad, magnetic connector at the bottom). The Go 400 has on the back of the matching USB port (and a card slot on the bottom).
Battery:
This is clearly built and in my eyes not just powerful, without connection to the electrical system it quickly goes on longer tours run out of steam. Even so, if the device is not in use, it will discharge my opinion too much - even though I have turned off the unit and do not put into the possible hibernation.
Screen:
With 53 mm x 95 mm (equivalent to 108 mm visible diagonal), the display is large enough compared to the Go Live 1015 does not occur at (125 mm in size, visible and thus much larger area). Mirroring the surface is annoying, thanks to the support the TomTom Go 400 can be nevertheless adjusted so that it fits. Imprints of fingers from "Touchen" can be easily removed with a simple micro-fiber cloth.
The Touch gestures function blameless, the screen and the device to react quickly enough and good.
Navigation:
This is - as I am used to from my Go Live 1015 - very good. If you drive systems with closed roads can not exclude that, to recalculate the route when leaving the calculated path goes very quickly and easily. The announcements come (somewhat) noisy and therefore are understandable. Yannick (standard voice) is saying the street names with to what sounds partly funny, still works. At motorway exits, for example, helping a navigation system with the representation of the lanes that you have to choose. In unfamiliar routes more than helpful. The map material is also relatively new, so already knows the Go 400 routes that were newly built "only" (approx 1/2 year old).
One can also clearly use the POI as a destination or simply zoom into the map to find certain streets.
Here you have the Go 400 a different menu than the Go Live 1015, route planning can be found under "Search", I found the beginning a little unusual, you also have to enter the destination (just about finding) tap only on the three dots in my other TomTom filed Tipper anywhere on the display. Nevertheless, the Go 400 can good use and you will find its way without problems.
The desired location, you can enter "as you like", ie either place first and then the road, the Go Live 1015 is strictly by location, then street, then house number yet. Yet so far I could enter all the addresses easily, the "old" system, I find yet mature.
Who needs to drive a lot at night, there is of course also the night mode in which changes the color display.
A voice input does not exist, the "Live Mode" (traffic information for the route) there is only via coupled smartphone, what I do not use (for which I have the radio, although there the information is not as good as on TMC).
My Conclusion:
The TomTom Go 400 is a small and practical "Navi", which takes you within Germany (Europ card is installed) good everywhere. But why I draw from a star if it's good? This is now: Actually, I would give three stars, because the update system of the card (s) at TomTom. One can firstly be led no two TomTom devices under one account, and both then successively update via MyTomTom (update just go on the Internet) and secondly takes an update forever. Eternally is: In my 32-Mbit line over an hour to download the map and then again a good hour for transfer to the TomTom. Here, the connection breaks for TomTom times also from or it depends on (forever rotating Update Animation) and unresponsive. That's 7 happened to me under MacOS and Windows, also at another DSL connection with 16 Mbit. One star more there for support, which is really nice and help, for example in the separation of accounts for multiple TomToms and the correct assignment of the device. Overall, the TomTom Go 400 is a recommendable device, to update policy I have already written the customer service and get nice answer, but: MyTomTom is annoying and time consuming. TomTom Home (for other models) is already a better approach.
Should not occur to me points, I forgot, I will start this review appropriate characterize and customize.
