The adventures of Nicolas Le Floch, in my opinion, the small pearl of the collection "Great Detectives" editions of 10/18. Already conquered by the first volume "The enigma of Whitecloak" I loved this second investigation, not trivial: a young man of good family is found dead in his room. Everything suggests at first glance, it's a suicide. But Nicolas, accompanied by Sartine, notice some elements that favor the theory of a particularly gruesome murder. Each chapter takes the reader twists twists; no unnecessary description, no episode or detail that is explained in solving the riddle, also fairly complex. It focuses more on the characters, whose personalities would benefit from a little meaty. I was seduced by this new investigation, as well as the style of the author, precise, elegant, and well documented. I highly recommend this series to fans of historical novels.
