So I was looking for a PS / 2> USB adapter, and after reading many reviews about the first prize models (key does not work on QWERTY keyboards, no reaction when simultaneously support multiple keys, required to restart the system to be detected), I came across this adapter, including the opinion of corey (whom I thank in passing), indicating that the keys worked perfectly with it, which led me to choose this model.
Perfectly recognized keys
----------------------------------
- I confirm that ALL the buttons respond perfectly, including the famous, the key, and special buttons (standby, multimedia ...)
- I have no problems to press multiple keys at the same time (known as the concept of "anti-ghosting"), even though my tests on this have been very short: both on a FPS with keys QZSD + arrow keys + Shift / Ctrl / Alt as a Windows application, where I could support up to 5 characters at once and see them all appear: the results are the same as the keyboard Integrated tested laptop (Dell Precision M6600).
No detection problem
---------------------------
- Detection of the keyboard is fully functional with no additional drivers or reboot, regardless of the port (USB 2 as USB 3)
- It is also possible to disconnect and reconnect the PS / 2 keyboard to the adapter, without disconnecting the USB adapter: The keyboard always responds present.
- I also tested a passive USB extension 5m (149387 Belkin, sold on Amazon) without worry.
Hardware tested (and functional)
-------------------------------
- Keyboard: 1 "noname" BTC 5201 and 1 Anti-RSI A4Tech PS / 2 with multimedia keys
- Computers: 1 laptop Dell Precision M6600 (adapter connected to USB 2.0 and USB 3.0), 3 fixed PC in different platforms (1 Pentium 4, 1 Core i7, 1 AMD A6, USB 2.0) and 1 mini PC Android (MINIX NEO X5, USB 2.0)
- Operating Systems: Windows XP SP3 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit Ubuntu Linux 13.10, Android 4.1 and 4.2.2
- KVM Trendnet TK-209K (2 USB, VGA 2, 2 audio)
All combinations tested (with or without KVM, different keyboards, different OS PC) proved perfectly functional.
However, on Android, the key did not produce the character, but other special characters, depending on the application used keyboard layout:
- Using the "physical QWERTY keyboard" of legumanoid, the \ character appears in place of - using the "QWERTY keyboard Lite" of UpSoft, this key displays the character *
The results are the same with a standard wired USB keyboard, the adapter is not to question.
For information, the packaging box of the adapter that I got the door nlink Pax mark (NewLink) and appearance is consistent with the photo of the product.
It states "PC use only"; having no Mac available, I can not confirm compatibility with Apple iOS devices or Mac OS X.
Objective fully achieved!
-----------------------------
If you want to reuse an old PS / 2 keyboard without limitations, and without falling into the excesses of a tariff Belkin F5U119eaE sold in the 13 to 15 (only other adapter for which I read that the working key), you can trust it sold slightly more expensive (5.05) that the first models to prices mixed reviews.
I read somewhere that the adapter PS / 2 with intermediate casing and 2 connectors (like this one) were called "active" (as opposed to single-piece models to a single port, keyboard or mouse, so-called "passive") and that this characteristic could affect proper operation (recognition of the key anti-ghosting, etc.).
This information is taken with caution, because in the end, it appears that the operation of these adapters, even "active" varies enormously from one material to another.
This is why I encourage you to choose one that meets my expectations.
