On our property a fountain already existed and so I was called as a craftsman, to bridge the few meters from the well to the plant. In addition I have the garden pump TIP GP 3000 INOX bought a few years ago when Obi DIY store, for about 70.00.
The Gardena Saugschluch costs GNTB. About 25.00, I will have probably paid a few years ago for it.
*** Commissioning ***
There is a garden pump and NOT submersible pump, the pump in dry conditions and from the pump to the water remains a hose is required. The choice fell on an original Gardena hose with 4m. The suction hose should naturally plunge into the water, there was the first problem. Unfortunately, the suction hose - type of construction - relatively stiff and prefers to stay in the rolled-up form as it was received. The plastic suction (the lower end, with check valve and grille in order to avoid large debris can be sucked) is there no help, because it is also very easy. Even filling the hose with water does not really help. That's why I me but then not bought a matching sucker viewed brass (much harder) (between depending on the version. 10.00 and 15.00) at the hardware store. For a handyman there is a simpler solution: tie a stone to the sucker! On the pressure side, I have a transition piece for a 3/4 "(in words: three quarters of an inch) mounted hose.
*** The pump ***
The design of the pump is a single stage centrifugal pump, so closely related to a vacuum cleaner. Most of the space inside the pump housing made of stainless steel is filled with a plastic part, which provides favorable flow conditions. Like a vacuum cleaner, the pump is self-priming, but only from a low height (I guess max 0.5 to 1 m -. This is true for an empty hose). For use in the fountain, I fill the vacuum hose and the pump housing at the beginning of the season with water. The nearly 4 m suction for the pump are then no problem. The max. Pressure is indicated as 4.2 bar, which corresponds to 42 m lifting height.
*** The Drive ***
Is driven by the pump motor capacitor.
Advantages of the capacitor motor:
- Sealed construction,
- The engine is cooled by a fan wheel, and only from the outside via the cooling fins,
- No "electrical" wear parts, such as are present for example in a drill in the form of carbon brushes,
- The motor can be operated with 230V AC, it is not a three-phase connection required.
*** The Operation ***
The garden pump is operated only in the summer, of course, because all the antifreeze measures can be omitted. The delivery rate is quite convincing, thanks to the 3/4 "hose (with a 1/2" hose can perhaps washing the car, but fill in the garden and the pool is there something more bubble).
*** The End ***
After several years of normal operation with a total of perhaps 100 or 200 hours of operation there this year but problems: water is coagulated again from the hose back into wells, ie it has after switching on the pump for a short time taken up again of water has flowed. This can have 2 causes: the pump or the non-return valve is leaking. Since the hose full of water, the check valve is in order.
Then, the first failure: no pump noise but a (for an electrician like me) merkbares hum of the engine. This may be a sign of a defective motor capacitor. Such a motor capacitor 8μF / 400V ~ (8 microfarad, 400 volt AC) I bought and installed to 4.40 from Conrad. Now the motor restarts. After approximately 2 weeks, another failure, no pump noise, no water. The new motor capacitor (should be "easy" 5 to 10 years hold) it may not be, and therefore I have the motor examined more closely.
After picking up the finger protection I notice that the impeller is jammed. With gentle shaking can be turned back the motor shaft. I look after the new motor capacitor, this is wet, the wires are covered with small droplets. It smells like "amp", I do. My overheating due to high current The water can only come from inside the engine. Together with the clamping motor shaft is clear: the camp between pump housing and motor is leaking and defective. So, in order: leaky storage -> water in the camp -> rust in storage -> motor shaft jammed -> winding overheats. Why the motor protection (see name plate) has the engine is not protected against this strain, so I no longer bothered me. Because after the further dismantling and a view of the winding was clear: there is no second life for our garden pump. They will be handed over to the scrap cycle.
*** Conclusion ***
It is certainly succeeded in replacing drinking water by well water. On the other hand if the acquisition in the short operating time has really paid off is not safe.
