Positives:
- Real on / off switch on the front.
- Very fast reading and launching files via USB.
- Smooth, fast drive with excellent error correction.
- Brightness, contrast, saturation and much more in the HDMI mode can be changed.
- Numerous interfaces including analog 5.1 output, HDMI, USB and Card Reader..
- Enkoding function to convert an audio CD into MP3 files.
- Volume control effectively via SPDIF.
- Good File Browser with 20 characters per line.
- Factory already codefree.
- Cheap Price.
Neutral:
- Very lightweight, inexpensive remote, but useful range.
- Many settings for the 5.1 output, but rather modest sound quality.
- Quite an extensive manual that does not seem to fit at every point to the included player.
Negatives:
- Contrary to data from Amazon, the player has no VGA output.
- 4: 3 video DVD material is always stretched to full screen width ... even with 16: 9 TVs.
- The VIDEO button on the remote control affects only the Scart and YUV output.
- No switching from YUV to RGB color space in HDMI operation possible.
- No possibility of adjusting the video pull manually.
- The playing time remains in MPEG4 mode and the display must be switched off by pressing the OSD button again.
- The case has no standard width and is not processed very stable.
- The cheap feet can not protect them from sliding around the device.
- The factory settings in the setup are partly senseless, partly annoying. So the players are factory made no HDMI picture for a 720p / 1080i TV because it was chosen as default 1080p.
My unit also has problems when playing original DVD-Video discs. If the bit rate is very high, so it seems to me in any case, there is reproducible stuttering, (stoppage of approximately 1/10 of a second) that can occur two to three times per minute. This effect was seen in Sleepy Hollow, X-Men 3, The Sixth Sense and Gladiator. Consequences of Without A Trace run smoothly, however. I suspect that this is a defect in the drive of my player and not 8450 all react that way, but for the sake of completeness this circumstance should be mentioned.
In conclusion, I prefer that the Xoro HSD 8450 with its 1389M chipset MTK had many really good ideas, (he is much better, especially when it comes to Fahlerkorrektur than the last Zoran V8 player of MAS), the user but also with numerous bugs annoyed. A good part of it could be a reasonable firmware (as to marvel at the Pioneer DV-400/410), entirely eliminate, insofar as a FW Modder shows interest in the Xoro.
