Have previously been the white version 2006 as well as the 2008 version tetestet and used ausgiebit.
First impression when you unpack:
- Actually as ever (for who does not know it, big white carton, on top of the same keyboard, mouse, accessories and software, of course, the Apple now mandatory swab ;-))
- Much thinner than the white version of iMacs, handy, not so very difficult, and the scene is the same as I've always wanted
Connect:
- Connect no problem at Apple, keyboard and mouse, turn on, device is ready for use after a few minutes, yet quickly made updates and everything works.
- Data Secure Windows PC can be tricky sometimes something anything to convert and set up, but more on that later ...
Power:
- IMac has become supposedly cheaper, now offers DDR3 instead of DDR2, 6 MB cache for CPU is also evident in the performance display is neat (still not properly the display in the 20 "iMac), production technical errors as with the first equipment of the iMac and the unibody Macbooks do not exist, production line seems to work really well, pixel errors also gabs.
- HDD is greater ==> 640 GB instead of 250 GB (upgradeable to 1 GB factory, are now also larger S-ATA disks, the 1.5 TB and more offer) ==> 4 GB (expandable up to 8GB ) instead of 2 GB
- Advantage: Upgrading directly after purchase is no longer necessary, the aluminum iMac I had at the very beginning with 2GB equip, 1GB of RAM from the factory back then really was not enough.
Comment on the handling and meaning of the device:
Belief that this iMac is suitable for media enthusiasts who like to give up their televisions, VESA mount adapter is available as an option. Graphics editing runs fine, have an Adobe Creative Suite it works beautifully, to office software and of course bootcamp with Windows XP (power saving features, etc. function neither with Unibody Macbook still with the iMac well, but mostly runs just also MAC OS). Also useful for office work, sparing the iMac's also the power consumption at quite good performance. Even current games run on the iMac, but you should grab as spielefreak rather the version with better graphics card (just renamed old models, graphics has not improved significantly, only the onboard graphics was a 9400M Intel replaces but considerably more can afford. For video editing, continuous operation and for over- and play around large file sets the Mac Pro is the better choice for little more as well as hard drives can be easily exchanged here, upgrade options, the small iMac are just slightly limited. HDD change is not just possible, you do it yourself - you should prefer to save, is quite complex and even an experienced hobbyist, it is quite tricky the necessary supplementary tool (suckers, lint roller to clean the monitor, etc., tool list is very long when the service manual of Apple read through) zusammenzubekommen, apart from the time and the fact that something can easily get broken (glass, cables from webcam, display, etc.). If already a good flat screen is available, I would recommend the Mac Mini is indeed relatively speaking I think a bit overpriced and become more expensive compared to last machine, but need not hide himself with his performance (Careful: mouse and keyboard are not included with Mac mini but it does any USB keyboard or USB mouse their service).
Recommendation:
Buy Quiet early device is just appeared and the next update will have to wait a bit to be. Apple Protection Plan for 148 euros with AOC discount is I think useful, otherwise shoot cheap at Ebay ==> 3-year warranty are then fine if really something breaks wirds namely quickly expensive.
For my part, I have no regrets buying once again, even Windows users come with bootcamp at their own expense unless one wants to deal more extensively with MAC OS itself. I myself use Mac OS now almost as often as Windows, very intuitive and almost crash-proof. Price of this model is the way I think best, 100 euros less than the 24 "model previously, to the free printer Apple Rebates and possibly soon a discount campaign with Free iPod ... wait wirs.
