Some big surprises for those who read this book in French.
First, be aware that English, sentence construction is very short, almost mechanical: I walk. I eat. I read. I'm happy. It is a style like any other, who have absolutely no jurisdiction in the French translation.
Second, some beautiful mistakes:
Chapter 37: (deliberately, I looked in the chapters toward the end, this is the translator tired a bit more):
I fall asleep next to him. in French
The English version: He lies next to me as I fall asleep It goes with me when I fall asleep.
I'm afraid to make chauchemars ->
In English: I-have to expect nightmare -> I expect to have nightmares
-> In one case, I'm afraid to have, in another, I expect to be.
I pinch my cheeks hard to bring blood to the area of my skin I pinch my cheeks hard to bring the blood to the surface of my cheek
In French: I pinch my cheeks to make me look better.
Basically the author does not say why she pinches the cheeks, in another case, it is made to the why and how.
Veronica Roth is in a current almost behaviourist -> it describes very pragmatic actions of his heroes without giving too much detail on the purpose of their actions. Translation gum that, either in volume 2 or 3 (I have not looked for volume 1).
