Have decided to use the device as a substitute for the LG Super Multi Blue BE14NU40 external BluRay burner (14x Speed, USB 3.0). The unit of LG was a real flop (qv).

Runs perfectly well with my MacBook Pro with OSX 10.9. In my field of application I see no noticeable difference to USB 3.0.
