we have 10 bought the Garmin GTU since 05/07/2013 through Amazon. The initial negative and very bad reviews have indeed surprised me, but since I know Garmin devices from sport and from the professional environment, I could not imagine that this device works so bad.
The GTU was delivered swiftly, incl. A bag which could be attached to a dog collar for example.
This is also our primary purpose.
About the device itself:
- It is very fast, the satellite,
- It can be easily places on the iPhone or PC, as long as an Internet connection
- The battery life is 2 days up to 7 days, depending on the tracking interval and whether to allow the sleep mode in a Geofencebereich
- The menu and the display is very clear, it shows, among other things speed, altitude and the last positions of the last 72H, and the current position. On the iPhone even their own (iPhone) and the position of GTU10, which makes it easier to locate the dog, this should be so times.
- It is possible to change the setting on the device online, Ex .: the tracking interval of every hour every 5min or all 30sec. Lends itself when the dog escaped and one is in pursuit. ;)
- He is more protected as well against environmental influences, in particular in the pocket, our dog every day at the guest house and outside and the unit had no problems with it,
- He also works in the forest while jogging with no problems,
- Since we GTU after every use from his pocket and have hung on the charger, there were no problems with the battery. On holiday (dog in the pension) this kept up to 7 days.
- Another positive aspect is that the Tracking Plan 1 year for free, including delivery of SMS and emails.. After 5 a month which is totally okay.
Of course there is also a disadvantage:
- The zipper on the bag broke down after 8 months, here a rectification would definitely attached.
Best I liked and therefore I decided despite the negative reviews for Garmin, customer service is 1A, after 1 year, the device was defective, no GPS signal and Garmin has replaced within 4 days.

Otherwise, I can only recommend to anyone the GTU 10 responsible dog owners warmly, be better prepared for the big day, as afterwards to be stupid.
So far we have not used the GPS transmitter. ;) Still, it soothes when he wears it, and Wild appears or times in the boarding house where he grew ever over the fence.
