Whenever Prog / Death playful new standards are set in the genre, then German bands have here often say in a due word. In addition to the brilliant Frickel-grinders Necrophagist ("Onset to putrefaction", "Epitaph") has, especially the Southern quartet OBSCURA for great astonishment made in recent years in the Underground. In my opinion, the 2009 album "Cosmo Genesis" was actually one of the hottest Prog / Death-runs the last decade, with the band from Landshut had the bar ever laid damn high. With the brand new 9-Tracker "Omnivium" but that does not reasonably possible masterpiece is OBSCURA succeeded: The four musicians have in all directions - not only playful! - Enormously developed, and are now undoubtedly a world leader of demanding stick sounds. "Omnivium" has become a technically brilliant, eingeknüppelte with maximum energy wutschnaubender disc whose complexity the handset right away first scared - and in fact I felt after the first Hördurchläufen a sense of unconditional surrender. But the multi-day endurance test has fortunately disabused me, so you have to really talk about a masterpiece in this 54-minute film. The OBSCURA-third Ling "Omnivium" is a mathematical equation with four unknowns: highly complex, difficult to understand - but solvable! From the first earphone-Check is very noticeable that the band has gained a big shovel in terms of heaviness ... compared to the previous "Cosmogenesis" the speed was attracted murderously so OBSCURA composing skills often in unstoppable ICE bring pace to the people. Sometimes even gives the impression that the gentlemen musicians have developed lately a certain soft spot for black metal, whose ominous frenzy already desöfteren times shines through subtle. All Diehard fans can breathe easy but of course: New Song cream pieces like "Vortex Omnivium", "Prismal dawn", "Celestial Spheres", "Euclidean Elements" or überfamose, ingenious "Master of puppets" -Vibes breathing opener "Septuagint" are also anno 2011 for brutal Prog / Death of a lifetime, with which it makes use of the band Taste securely between bands like CYNIC, PESTILENCE, Decrepit Birth, MEKONG DELTA, Blotted Science and (of course!) DEATH comfortable. The distraught "Ocean Gateway" on the other hand is a trailing minor epic in MORBID ANGEL-style, in which the quartet madness from another approaching, but without subside to Kompromislosigkeit. Fierce! And now we come to the point it out: What the four musicians deduct on their instruments for a show that is so dodgy and "state of the art" that the Prog-history must be rewritten immediately. During the two guitarists, seek their salvation in the precise merging of brutal riffs insane solo escapades and melody washed jazz passages, acting drummer as sewing and jackhammer in personal union, so that the keyword dynamic but still written in capital letters. The shouter grunts-border case like a rampaging anteater verge Halali, only to ensure the next moment by futuristic vocoder vocals for comforting Blank have. All this is still trumped by over-Basisten Jeroen Paul Thesseling (including PESTILENCE) who operates his sixstring-Fretless (yep yes!) As a mechanical wonder weapon. Soft wax models of hotshot even the funkiest bass lines so that each die-hard prog nerd in a split second loses Containnance. As an example may be mentioned at this point that completely incomprehensible, aufwartende with beautiful DISSECTION Memorial harmonies "A transcendental Serenade" in which the filgrane noise practically knows no bounds. Without Words! And if one of "Omnivium" at all can make the slightest weakness, then possibly the that some song structures sometimes lose themselves in very zuuu prog wobble. Especially the numbers "Velocity" and "Aevum" had a more song oriented paint a little better standing to face - just as you have to hold at all, that the predecessor "Cosmogenesis" has gone into the ear more quickly overall. However, this provides only for minimal deductions in the B-note, but the highest score at this point, of course not (!) Prevent. Especially not when an album makes a sooo coherent, lovingly prepared artwork for optical delight. Conclusion: Masterfully !!!
