I was a long time to digitize looking for a document scanner my correspondence with OCR. The document should therefore be able to find a full text search and not an image filing. Prices correct document scanners have hitherto prevented me from buying one and now the Epson comes with its duplex feeder and quite good judgment at computer magazine c't.
Installation
Went smoothly for me. Maybe because I have decided for the USB port, I can recommend to anyone who has the opportunity. Integration into the WLAN and Software Installation also went very well.
Scanning & OCR
The pure scanning is not rocket science and should be added to get from each. Charmant is the storage on the SD card or save to Google Drive, etc. But now to the exciting question of the further processing, so who would like to have not only pure pictures.
Who scanned into a PDF, will soon notice that there is no text recognition here, because the software on the PC must ran what was actually to be expected. Said and done.
I then needed several hours to finally create a multipage PDF, in which the page is displayed as an image and the recognized text. I was there to torment rather through the settings. Why such a thing is not default, is beyond me.
I was almost satisfied until I have seen my results even closer. The detection rate is pretty bad - because I can text recognition also give equal. To make it short: The Presto PageManager is save in the wrong place. The software is a joke and you wonder what Epson has ridden since.
That it's better I've seen with a several-year-old version of Abby FineReader.
The Epson Event Manager I have set so that he FineReader with handover of files calling for "Scan-to-PC" (fineocr.exe).
Now I can load a stack of documents in the feeder, scanning the images end up directly in FineReader, and the result can I expect after the OCR recognition in a searchable PDF file save. So it should be really.
Conclusion as a scanner:
The duplex-capable feeder is a great thing. The scans go pretty fast. Simple Scans can be versatile take and use. Who wants to use the device as a document scanner, is run in conjunction with the crummy software against the wall. Therefore only 3 stars.
Who has a good OCR software available, or another investment is not afraid, can just make in connection with the Event Manger also true document management. Considering the price / performance ratio, it would certainly have been with decent OCR software 4 to 5 star.
Again, printing, ink prices have not interest me :-)
