I have to come out only once .. in 2013 I bought my first smartphone. Not that I have not used Internet / Technology, on the contrary, I am almost never without a notebook on the go and professionally must write correct messages, and not only What Apps SMS short messages. That's how I roll over just 5 iPhone generations, who, if I had in hand did not really convinced me in recent years. Also has put me off long the product policy of the former monopolist smartphone, plus the constraint in the early years, having to be re-telecom customer. All that has so far prevented me from purchasing. Meanwhile the teething problems have been completed and the displays of the highest class have resolutions in PC orders of magnitude. And an important criterion was the avoidance of dependence on a proprietary vendor and operating system for me. So Android / Google or Microsoft / WIN8. At Microsoft, I have my doubts whether the Firmes manages to establish their system, so you are with Android on the safe side, the market leader, widely distributed and hardware selection.
I have decided micht purchased for the HTC One and the same for my wife a Samsung S4. That is why I now can assess the differences to some extent,
and write this at the end of each point.
The experiences are as follows:
(++) Installation, integration with existing PC applications:
as I said, without years of experience and smartphone without looking at the manual I had one afternoon in Gmail, 1und1 mail, Ebay, Facebook, Skype, WhatsApp, a MP3 Player, install a barcode scanner and merged the addresses of the various systems.
I call intuitive operation, and worked erwartungsgemässt integration with Gmail particularly well, finally you have address book and calendar in sync wherever and without backup problems.
Compared to the Samsung version of the operating system, HTC has the flashing feed called home, the news, weather and Facebook entries assembles as personal news, I like it, so a small plus for HTC

At S4, the two soft keys with menu (left) and back (right) has a total of .. operation at Samsung is then probably modeled on the Apple Phone, so a (small) change. But the menu is somewhere to find function in any apps on the screen.
Ultimately makes but little from when one uses the device daily. So as the parking brake when the car, handbrake or pedal, both has friends ... I find the hidden switch better: first, it is ruled out that you turn on the screen by mistake, and secondly, you can verrzichten a locked home screen. So again a small plus for HTC
(++) Processing .. no, the teething problems I can not determine, have reported some users .. I see a cell phone as a commodity, but extra-time scrutinized after reading the reviews here.
The competition model of Samsung is incidentally also well made, only makes the aluminum back of the HTC of the feel clearly the most significant impression.
(+) Memory ... 32 GB are lush dimensioned for many images, MP3s ... the 16GB of S4, which I had all times be problematic, 6-7 GB are indeed occupied by the operating system. In practice, the issue goes to Samsung, there can be a commercially available Micro-SD card to use and upgrade up to 64GB in addition, is so much more flexible and not have to wait for an (expensive) range of the manufacturer.
(-) Battery ... yes the battery is of sufficient size and also holds two days, losing sleep mode at night to just 3-5% - but the fact that the battery is built (yes I habs previously known) deserves a fat minus and costs the 5th star in my rating. Ultimately, this means that after 2 years and a broken battery I get a device with removable battery 100 or 200 euros more than for the special with permanently installed battery (a change yourself like some Navis hardly seems possible for hobbyists)
jaja the market Führere also makes no assumptions on the EU requirements, I am angry a bit, having not seen as an exclusion criterion.
(+) Display ... top resolution, colors, no doubt, but in bright light all have a problem, even when switched off energy saving function. And here is the Samsung, with the same number of pixels a bit bigger and (subjectively) a bit is brilliant. In addition, Samsung has one more line for input of numbers .. as a clear point for Samsung.
(++) Calls / run speaker / microphone .. I know Apple fans with Zweithandy .. because phone calls was apparently no great strength of smartphones. So I was pleasantly surprised about the really excellent voice quality, the stereo speakers give her more than you would expect from a 10mm thick sheet and glass thing.
Here also a plus compared to S4 (subjectively)
(0) camera .. I am an amateur photographer, and I can only rate neutral, which produces as a mini lens to pictures. But here, too: a 100 euros from the supermarket it can keep (almost) .. the LED is of course no flash and the zoom is just one software cut. With really good lighting, the images are but to use quite well .. I've found no settings for picture size, the outputs are approximately 4 Mpix and are approximately 1-1.5 MB in size .. that's good and avoids unnecessary garbage .. I guess under the eyes of a photo tester is likely to be the real resolution 2 or less MEGAPIX. But for a usable scan an A4 page, it all right, and in nice weather for a landscape photo. Of course, the mobile phone users make always and everywhere images and the camera also does with everything, with LED lights and ISO 1600 ... which of course only gives noisy, blurry images, but to send or documenting it was good enough.
Conclusion: I'm actually very happy with both devices, but would, if I had to choose again, probably pick up the Samsung, with the built-battery would make the difference. Otherwise, we arrived with two devices very zufrienden in the smartphone era.
