The PowerShot S110 is a 1 / 1.7 inch sensor whose surface 43mm2 as compared to DSLRs is still small, but at least 50% greater than usual fails in most compact cameras plugged. This makes itself apparent in the quality of the photos noticeable. The S110 makes tack-sharp images, even at the edges is not a waste of sharpness seen. Image noise is not noticeable until ISO 800, making good, natural images without a flash are also possible in weaker-lit interiors. At ISO 1600 the image already rushing a bit, but for me the pictures also because still usable. Everything about it is probably meant more for emergencies. With flash, the color fidelity is not so great, I think the pictures are a bit too bunt.Die shutter speed is fast enough to take pictures without shaking. The operation works well, in particular the implementation of the touchscreen is nice: You can use it quickly set the auto focus and manual smartphone similar to wipe through his works, zoom, etc. The camera offers the following modes: automatic, shutter speed / aperture priority, manual mode, HDR, Movie Digest, scene mode and Custum where you store frequently used settings and quickly recall. Especially in manual mode, as well as the shutter speed / aperture priority of the lens ring and the wheel at the rear are very practical, so you can see the desired settings (aperture / shutter speed) make quickly without having to wade through menus. The Scene Mode is a bit thin, a mode for panoramic photos not there for example. The initial aperture of F2.0 (at 24mm wide angle) is for such a compact camera quite good, the light intensity increases at the telephoto end (max 120mm with 5x zoom) but pretty quickly. For a play with the background (un) sharpness, the S110 is so only partially, the results are not really comparable with that of a DSLR. Filmed I do not have much, so only briefly on the side: quality is good (FullHD), you can zoom while recording, the camera focuses on its own, just needs some time for it. Battery life is fine (about 200 pictures.) As long as we do not continue playing with the WLAN;) I personally use this feature usually not with an SD card you get the pictures I think fast enough to the computer, but those who need it. In addition, the automatic mode verbrät more battery than the manual mode. Processing / feel valuable aspect, the camera weighs 200g with battery and in my opinion is still pocket fit. I find the On / Off button has fallen a bit small and inconveniently located, the mode dial but grippy and good to use. The flash pops up only when needed and hides otherwise in very compact package. A searcher not there. The camera can be connected via USB cable to the computer and via HDMI cable, for example, with a TV.
I give the Canon PowerShot S110 5 stars because it makes very good pictures in all lighting conditions, many manual controls provides and because it has a good compromise of image quality, compactness and price closed for me.
