Before musical performance by West on this album I have deep salute. Leslie West is still a great guitar player and he sings, roars, screams, celebrates the bluesy rock with such fervor, that is a quite warm around the heart. His fellow musicians and guests sit down this is also absolutely in the spotlight.
There is the straight hard rockers "Dyin` Since The Day I Was Born" with great solo work by Mark Tremonti, Johnny Lang proves to the Percy Sledge classic "When A Man Loves A Woman" as a great singer and good Gitarrist.Johnny Winter plays a wonderful slide guitar on the bluesy stomper "Busted, Disgusted Or Dead". Highly successful is the hymn "Feeling Good" with the voice of TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider. A beautiful re-recording the track "Long Red" from the first album and the blue MOUNTAIN soaked anthem Stampfer "Hatfield Or Mccoy" should also be mentioned.
However, falls whole, the song material from Still Climbing compared to Wests Last Long groove but rather average. The big bang as the style of "One More Drink For The Road", "Mud Flup Momma", "Standing On Higher Ground" from Unusual Suspects Album fail me here. The ballad "Fade Into You" or "Tales Of Woe" do not have such big depth such as "Legend" from the last CD just mentioned to me.
Conclusion: LESLIE WEST MOUNTAIN and fans, and fans of bluesy Rock & Hard Rock should "Still Climbing" give quite an ear. Only through his musical output is likely to deceive so many youngster musicians something Mr. West. "Still Climbing" Despite some good numbers become a rather unspectacular album. I therefore recommend the newcomers rather fantastic predecessor CD "Unusual Suspects" and of course the MOUNTAIN slices of 70s.
