Furnishings:
The first device was simply vonstatten. About Wi-Fi I have the device connected to my home network and therefore also to the Internet. After a successful first connection my player update has the same found. The installation was straightforward, but took quite a few minutes. After that, the player simply switched without comment. A success message or a reboot would have been nice here, otherwise you stand in front of the unit and wonders if it's just from now, or even dealt with the update. If you've confirmed the terms and conditions for the online services, these are also available quickly.
Operation:
Here me first is the long time it takes for the device to start, a negative impression. Given the many side features but that is not surprising. The online content is quite extensive. In addition to various media libraries (especially the ProSieben / Sat1 Group) are also content of the evening news or as music videos for playback on the Internet ready. Many activities are free, others cost usually a monthly fee. This includes for example also Amazon's in-house video rental LOVEFiLM. On the Video on Demand offering can be accessed directly via the Sony Blueray player. Additional property amenities Sony's in-house music service. The Internet services have a total working very well. Once the service TapeTV was very slow, the next day the had but given, so I blame rather give the service as the Player. The image quality was surprisingly good and much better than what I know from the past in the online services. However, I also have a very fast Internet connection.
But a bad impression, the DLNA client made on the device. Of my three test videos played only one of these off and this also only the first 10 seconds of liquid. After playing faltered. A Blueray player of the competition, from the same price range, could play all three videos without problems. Even from a USB stick to be able to play only two of the three videos. He is replaced here at least playing the functioning not stalled. I hope that here soon an update for better compatibility will ensure.
Blueray playback:
Its core function satisfies the device refreshing unspectacular. By playing a currently engaged Blueray starts, however, it takes a little while. Except for this little thing there is nothing to complain about. The picture is on my 32 inch TV very good and the sound is transmitted without problems via HDMI to the TV.
CD playback:
Since the device is intended to serve as a CD player, I tested this function separately. So just at off player on the "open load" button and this jumped up promptly. So I then inserted a CD, closed the charge again and was amazed: The Blueray player had once just my TV device (also by Sony) switched on with. I wanted though not really, but at least shows one of TV now artist, title, and album art on. The information about the Blu-ray Player has retrieved from the Internet. Now I wanted to play only the CD and do not leave the TV running all the time. So I try to switch off this and again I was amazed, because now the TV the Blueray player simply switched off and with playback stopped therefore. However, a quick look at the settings of both devices fostered an attitude to days to recharge and the TV wean the Blueray player switching. Playing without turning on TV succeeds then also without problems. Here then disturbs only the lack of display and the lack of "Next / Previous buttons" on the device.
Conclusion:
All in all, the Sony Blueray player a successful device. It comes with many Internet content, 3D but it can not help it. The poor compatibility with media files and the full plastic case give but together a star deduction. The competition can sometimes rather better and Sony should at least improve compatibility with media files urgently firmware update. The Internet options Blueray- and, ultimately, the CD playback but work very well.
Therefore, there are 4 of 5 stars for a good, but not perfect Blueray player.
