The choice was between a Victorinox Spartan - THE classic pocket knives and this Skeletool. Since I did not know what now better meets my needs, I ordered both times.
Now both tools have here and am thrilled with both in different ways. The Victorinox Spartan: more penknife nobody needs, the workmanship is excellent, the blade sharp and the tools really practical and useful. And visually the whole, a piece of jewelery is therefore as expected and hoped for a life companion. The plastic scratched unfortunately quickly, but that does not diminish the tool initially. This fine Swiss tool is what I'm going to have a day here.
The Leatherman contrast therefore, the Swiss army knife is really awesome, but the Leatherman is different. The tools of Skeletools are all high quality and very practically in their combination.
But while the Swiss knife comes already oiled and perfectly crafted with extreme attention to detail, the Skeletool CX one must first practice inserting in WD-40 to make it into a useful tool. Just for the pliers which is actually quite important moves to the moving parts after oiling at high frequency on a regular basis, you realize just first, how much heat the joints and how necessary is the lubrication. If one has the right behind the lubrication, the forceps includes buttery soft.
The forceps can be quite good with both hands result, the wire cutters to cut wire and can also be very good use for stripping.
The knife can be as razor use literally meant! The blade is very robust, though not manufactured with the attention to detail such as the Victorinox Spartan.
Especially during the millings on the blade you can still see traces of the machining stop already manufacturing the Victorinox Spartan would be something unthinkable. Also see the uploaded photos of the comparison.
The bit holder and the supplied bits are extremely useful and lock well. To what extent the bit holder on the outside of the tool permanently holds the remaining bits to be seen. The pivot point for the screwdriver is also a rather the tool design owed compromise for coarse loosening screws where you need only 'ne quarter turn, has this been going, but woe to you really have to multi-turn a screw from a little too solid thread fumble. At the site a real screwdriver is then halt unbeatable.
Bottle opener and carabiner function perfectly but can honestly say that the bottle opening is thus more complex than using the entire multitool in conjunction with the thumb as a lever
The weight of Skeletools is significantly higher than a normal pocket knives, but is bearable transportable in your pocket. The edges are not burred, but not as nice as the Swiss Army Knife wonderfully rounded, therefore the risk is, to destroy the pocket or things to scratch so as well. The carbon part is nice, but rather to be understood as Deko some weight relief brings it already, but the percentage of carbon on the tool does not allow for that to be regarded as the essential product characteristics.
Conclusion:
The Skeletool is an extremely convenient universal tool due to the combination of different types of tools. The perfect finish of a Victorinox Spartan, it does not even begin to approach. For the pliers + wire cutters are already a unique feature that you really like doing. The clear reduction in the tools really necessary are an extreme plus a Swiss Army knife with 500 functions (including integrated drill, circular saw and torch) is then processed though perfect, but absolute overkill that you do not need as mortal man. This reduction to the essentials is a great strength of the Leatherman's.
The evil look of Skeletool looks already great and is perhaps exacerbated by frequent use and wear. I put the Victorinox Spartan next, I find that the Swiss Army knife superior to Skeletool as total product, it is just perfect. The Skeletool can this perfection miss halt at times, be it the initial lubrication, the slight ridges in the blade, the clamped bit holder perhaps makes even the style of, wants to have the classic Skeletool contributor for me, this is but one star deduction ,
For hobby or if I know that times comes craft effort, I'll take the Leatherman with - otherwise remain in the car or backpack. My always there is the Victorinox Spartan. And that is a result with which I can live very well.
