A few years ago I discovered XBMC (Kodi) for me! I was absolutely delighted with the software behind it, the possibilities and the concept.
It began then an Apple TV 2. outrageously expensive at auction house bought (used) because no longer available new.
After jailbreaking and installing XBMC I was also very happy long.
But increasingly bothered me that the AppleTV under XBMC was always support with growing media collection.
What did not work was the fact that the AppleTV does 720p closing.
So I switched to an Android box.
The key data promised an absolute computing monster with 8-core processor, faster GPU and 16GB of storage.
Was initially taken with it. Provides Android but a few possibilities.
But XBMC (Kodi) was simply not clean on Android!
Constant jerking for certain formats, frame drops, dropouts, or even freezing the stream.
Have lots of back and forth tinkered with various Custom Roms, Kodi different versions and more ...
A clean result, I never achieved!
Only the user interface of Kodi was swift as an arrow and clean.
At some point grabbed me here too the frustration, and I gave the Raspberry an opportunity because I had noticed that now a much more powerful version was published.
What had so far prevented me from Raspberry, the opinions that it runs under the power limit Kodi were (the "UR" -Raspi), and is thus limited in its operation. Also bothered me that it is a craft project and not "out-of-the-box" works.
But well: Meanwhile with Kodi well versed in, I rangetraut.
And what can I say: Absolutely loved it !!
To install the latest version OpenELEC is a breeze.
A drum casing, SD card inside.
A Flirc stick for my Harmony remote.
And the thing works !!!
The user interface of Kodi runs very smoothly, all wallpapers are right there. Scrolling through long lists is not a problem !! Compared to significantly more potent Android box really is not heard .... -But only fractions and absolutely irrelevant !!!
But what is important: The playback of movies !!
Absolutely no problem !! No stuttering, clean image, no breaks - no matter what format ... - everything super !!
So this is fun!
I even have the impression that the pure image quality (regardless of frames, jerking or stuttering) is significantly better than the Android version of Kodi !!!!
I am absolutely delighted with the small part.
And now I think it's also very nice that it is not out-of-the-box is up, but my own, personal "Touch" has.
Now I have but actually with ner 40-Euro-Board found everything that I was looking for years in the field of media player ....
and in much higher price regions could never find !!
Good .. - you have to in advance to deal a little bit with the theme, and select the right parts for themselves.
But that's no problem!
For me the current Raspberry Pi (Pi 2) is the ideal Kodi media player. More media players Nobody needs !!!
