Regarding haptics the K10D was great, but the K5 is here in every way. It is very high quality and is great in the hand.
When image quality is a quantum leap was made, the 16.3 megapixel sensor also allows high magnification without significant loss of quality. Noise at higher ISO range is no longer an issue, and you should already asking honest when and how often to use higher than ISO 800.
In difficult lighting condition, the corresponding fast lens is just the basic requirement for high quality recordings.
The functionality of the camera is amazing and the menu navigation clear and self-explanatory.
Significant improvements were also achieved in the exposure mode. While the K10D permanently slightly underexposed, the exposure of the K5 seated right away. The same applies to the Auto Focus.
The shutter sound has changed to audibly K10D. It is quieter and very pleasant. With 7 shots per second actually nothing to be desired in the upscale amateur.
The manual is compact but very structured and language easily understandable.
Criticism is changing the memory card, here a lot of tact is necessary. But if you get the bow, again, this is manageable.
However, the viewfinder is large and very bright, for eyeglass wearers a bit difficult to deal with. This was at the K10D better (maybe I need to get used to even only).
The video feature is great and of very good quality, however, when the focus should be on creating video films, one is certainly better served with a video camera. A digital SLR (of any manufacturer) can here only represent a compromise.
The HDR function is a convenient feature if you but on creativity we value, you will continue to serve its HDR's on PC.
The menu of the K5 is plausible and self-explanatory, though you look only needs to get used as K10 photographer.
On the subject of sensor errors and so-called pearl necklaces I can only say that my camera delivers impeccable results and I do not know these problems.
A reputable manufacturers such as Pentax has and will surely respond quickly here.
Experienced photographers will always compare as to the K5 or transfer passengers with their previous camera and this certainly discover one or another improvement of its own. This is individual and also perfectly fine.
In conclusion I can say that I have never regretted my decision to purchase at any time and heard the K5 at an excellent price / performance ratio in my opinion, the absolute top group in the semi-professional.
Update as of 28.01.2011:
In mid-January I got the pearl necklace on a macro shot of my camera (one of the first serial numbers) discovered. Right after I sat down with the Pentax service in Hamburg phone connected and the staff there have responded quickly and very professionally. The very next day I had a written reply from the service manager and I sent my camera back immediately.
Just 6 days later my replacement camera was in the house and I'm still totally satisfied. The K5 is a very fantastic camera and I do not want to miss.
Start-up problems gint it in pretty much every company ... Pentax makes this start-up problems in my experience by a great service made up for and all those who curse Pentax and the start-up problems, I can only say "so how hineienruft in the forest, so echoes it back "... I tried objectively and factually to solve and it worked very well my problem with the first camera.
The Pentax brand and the first-class products I remain still loyal ... and let's face it, if the Web, the problem with the pearl necklaces would not have puplik, it would never have noticed the most users in life.
Therefore, I still 5 stars
