The Plustek OpticFilm scanners since the 7500 series deliver the hardware side quite useful results. For really good scans but the following should be heeded: a) scanning software is only for the scanning process, not for image editing - no matter what the advertising promises. Ie., Scan images as possible without any correction. VueScan delivers demonstrable results quickly; SiverFast can drive you to distraction, but brings - interesting primarily for slides - a touch more "depth" (density) in the scans. b) A scanner generates noise as a digicam, so a special denoising software is for the second step definitely required. c) Without final image processing with good software is nothing (tonal, color correction etc.). These three steps can be given reasonably strong demands on the final result is not done in one step!
