What excites me:
Installation and integration of my D-Link NAS drive have as described everywhere "at your fingertips" works.
Control via PC but also on iPhone work perfectly.
Especially excites me, as all components of the system are permanently tuned fully synchronized. This applies to the synchronous playback in "party mode" as well as to the simultaneous control over eg iPhone, PC and laptop. All controllers show permament equal status, regardless of who controls just.
The network quality is good. Playback of MP3 or internet radio is done with me always fully synchronized and no network problems.
What does not quite work perfectly:
In our old building we sometimes have a little trouble with our normal WLAN. Here also the Sonos comes at one point to its limits: If I watch TV on my PC, the sound from the audio input goes to a ZP90 and is distributed in the whole house in party mode. Since the network is sometimes overwhelmed and the transfer is made. To help Sonos offers to compress the sound. That may in pure audio playback function, but takes to compress and leads to a very unpleasant when watching TV delay.
For me this little shortcoming is not a problem, because I always do not need to hear the TV in the whole house. However, it is an indication to me that I would test with new purchase first the network. Possibly one has to fall back on Bridges. This would be the case in larger houses.
The great advantage of the system in conjunction with a NAS is that you can skip the PC. That was a major reason for the purchase for me. The control works on iPhone also very good (even if the PC software needed for some basic settings).
Unfortunately, the iPhone is one of my wife. If that is not at home, I need the PC because my BlackBerry unfortunately is not compatible.
My request to the manufacturer: Also offers for other smart phones solutions! And why there is no module with built-in touch screen? The S5 would offer my opinion.
Too bad, I also think that there is no on / off switch on the devices. So the wireless network remains permanently in operation. Technically, the energy is almost underground for European standards. I manage myself with disconnectable power strips. Technically this is not a problem because the device itself automatically integrate back into power within a short time. For these small grievance, there is a star deduction in my rating.
The disadvantages, however, are rather insignificant and disturb my enthusiasm slightly!
Supplement November 2012:
Meanwhile, I've also built in a bigger house, a fairly extensive Sonos system over 2 floors. Works perfectly.
But I had always network problems by individual components of the system "visible" were not, or playing files of your own library or from radio transmitters or Deezer was not possible. After much fretting I've found the problem. As reported by Sonos there are problems with other system based on 2.4G radio. These include some phones and wireless speakers. I have my JBL radio boxes Decommission, which I very much regret, but now it works perfectly.
So: Before purchasing definitely whether there may be such problems.
