The double disc proposed by EMI (now Warner Classics) offers a beautiful baroque music program for horn, in the elegant interpretation of Sir Neville Marriner with his orchestra of the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields recorded in the 1970s hornist Barry Tuckwell directs himself two concertos with the English Chamber Orchestra. Here we find ten horn concertos composed by Telemann, Leopold Mozart, Haydn brothers (Joseph and his younger brother Michael), Johann Stich said Punto, Forster, and Weber. With the concertino of the latter, we move from classicism to romanticism. Add the sonata for horn Cherubini, and here 150 minutes of fine music, and much more varied than it seems. Note the technical difficulty of the concertino Weber, which operates all the technical possibilities of the instrument and requires the soloist to dive into serious formidable (on this subject, the interpretation of Peter Damm with the Staatskapelle Dresden is perhaps more eloquent). Miking loud satisfactory and balanced, a short notice but enough documented accompanying music that deserves attention and listening with pleasure.
