First of all: The acquired here WD MyBook HDD is my 7th external USB hard drive.
All other run even after more than five years even so, as you would expect of them.
When "My Book" Unfortunately, this is different: As a musician, I have always with large amounts of data
(Vocals, instruments, project files) to do.
Now it was once again time for the existing storage media were no longer sufficient -
so I decided after the good reviews for the WD hard drive.
The first impression: visually quite chic and discreet. Unfortunately there is no on / off switch,
but this I already knew from the reviews.
In operation then, everything went as usual. I copied a larger amount of data in different folders
and subfolders on the new hard drive. Some of them I needed in between, others do not.
Now - about four months later - I wanted to access one of these folders, wondering
that the opening of the folder took a long time. The drive stayed during this period
always in the same position on the worktable.
Then came the disillusionment:
Windows reported "This disk is not formatted Should he now be formatted -.. Yes / no"
Since other folder still worked properly, I have of course to "no" clicked.
Has nevertheless I'll no longer get data in multiple folders.
Then first with regard to the return scheme looked at Amazon:
Unfortunately, the return period on Amazon was already expired. So the German support site
WD and there provided a support request / guarantee request. That was at 10:08. -
Today is 18:08. - Unfortunately, until now there was no answer, only an automated mail
with the note: ". Thanks for your e-mail Our goal is to answer your email within one (1) business day Sometimes it may take a little longer due to strong volume email to respond.."
Three to four days would in folder - more than a week is not acceptable.
Mainly because I now can no longer work with the unreliable hard drive ...
That means to me that it has been the first and last external USB hard drive from WD.
UPDATE 1 from 25.08 .:
The WD support has now responded after 12 days and asked me to check the hard drive with the WD-own diagnostic tool 'Data Lifeguard'. Unfortunately, the diagnostic tool was not successful because the external USB hard drive will be listed not only under the physical drives, even if it exists on the workstation and you can also access it (just not on all the folders and files because then the error message).
These things I have the support given (incl. Screenshots), but now are back to three days and there was as yet no answer. Service is different ... If there do by the end of the week Useful nothing, the plate is returned to Amazon.
