After reading many reviews, had two candidates crystallizes it for me: "Grundig Cosmopolit 3F WEB Internet Radio" and "Hama Wireless IR100". These two I've ordered so and can now share a Pro / Contra comparison with you.
First of all I can tell already, that both units use the same software to work, so have almost identical features. This also has an impact on the buttons and connectors, both have exactly the same, though with varying design. Nevertheless, there are differences.
(++ = Important advantage)
(+ = Not so important advantage)
(- = Not so important disadvantage)
(- = Significant disadvantage)
Grundig Cosmopolit 3F WEB Internet Radio
++ The full remote control is for me the biggest advantage of Grundig, unfortunately it is not evident in all the competitors I've seen so far. BUT: The numeric keys are fully functional. Neither can order the Wireless Key type still start the favorite stations. If anyone knows what to do with it, please contact me! ;-)
+ Display font slightly larger
+ 32 volume levels, thereby sufficiently fine adjustable
+ UPnP enables control of the radio (in the media streaming mode) from a mobile phone (with the Android app "2 Player"). Navigation, pause, stop, forward / back, volume.
+ Title display on the Internet Radio mode
+ Very good and stable wireless reception. My phone keeps losing in the bedroom, the connection, the radio never
+ Integrated FM radio, operating without WLAN is thus also possible, for example in camping holidays
+ Equalizer button, which I quite often use, because I hear sometimes classical, sometimes rock, sometimes radio plays
- Connections for USB and headphone at the back difficulties accessing
- The internal speakers noise clearly audible - can be avoided by connecting external speakers / headphones, otherwise unusable for bedrooms
- The sound of the internal speakers is at low volumes not good from normal speech (approximately at level 11 of 32) already bad. With me external Teufel speakers are usually connected; otherwise it would be for me a major disadvantage
Hama IR100 Wireless
++ For a radio of this size to good sound in high volumes, possibly a bit "dull"
+ Connections for USB and earphone on the front easily accessible
+ Pretty and robust design, the cube like it very much
- Too few volume levels, especially in the lower area. This means that if a level is too low, the next might already too loud
- No control from mobile phone possible from
- No display of titles in the Internet Radio mode
- To achieve equalizer only cumbersome via's menu
- From time to interfering signals are amplified by phone
- Folders on USB flash drives are sometimes not recognized, have not examined in more detail, but the Grundig's was not
- The cheap films Remote does not correspond to my understanding of good feel, even though it responds quite well so far (how long well?)
The power consumption is so low that my meter can not provide reliable results every time ;-) get other very low values (1-4 Watt) appears on both devices.
Deficits in both devices:
- Display can not be deactivated and so actually too bright for bedroom's
- With MP3 playback no sequel at last position possible (I hear mainly radio plays)
- Forward / backward skip / wind in MP3s often crashes the software (possible, only when streaming)
- Random playback only with limited number of items in the folder possible (how many have not yet tried). In any case denied the software with the message "too many titles". (Possible, only when streaming)
I'm hoping for software updates - but expect after 2 years no longer on the market with it.
Since I'm so originally been looking for a good MP3 player, I'm still not sure if I'll ever keep one of the two devices. The Hama I'll probably return because of the drawbacks mentioned with respect to the Grundig.
Who good speakers are more important than the remote control, but can perhaps come to a different decision. Even the Hama is not really bad, I focused on my review only on weaknesses than strengths.
Update 20/04/2012:
I am using the Grundig still satisfied.
MP3 tags are displayed but, at least in the streaming mode. The USB port, I no longer use.
